I've Kondoed some stress today because DS2 received his GCSE results.
He did really well and got an A* distinction in Further Maths - I didn't even realise you could get higher than an A* but apparently in this exam you can!
I am extremely proud if him, and apologies because I am not one to usually brag, :o but I'm even prouder of him as his GCSE's were more like the old style O Levels where he was examined at the end of the 2 years and no coursework was put towards the marks.

I do find it unfair that some of the country still are doing the old style GCSE's where they sit exams every 6 months and include coursework.
How is that a level playing field?
On paper it would appear they sat the same GCSE exams but they didn't. My son had 25 exams to sit over a 5 week period which covered 2 years coursework. In other parts of the country pupils had these exams spread out over 2 years and each exam covered just 6 months of coursework. Hardly fair.
Anyway that said, he did extremely well.

Good luck to all that got their results today. :)

Mine is exactly that also - hence the idea of the "packing party"

Oh dear, a bit of a mixed bag GCSE wise for J - I have never seen such a range of results from an A in history (A* in one paper) through to an E in German (with an F in one paper :p). On the whole they are good, but regrettably he got a D in maths and is so Peed off about it, he can't see the good results.

Sorry his results aren't what he hoped VJ.
Does he have the results he needs to do what he wants to do?
    I hope so.

I have a Victorian christening robe & a plainer baby robe which was always used as an undergarment, which were made for my grandma. They are small, and my 2 boys just fitted them at 6 weeks old. I guess babies were smaller, and probably were christened earlier due to higher infant mortality and the desire for baby souls to be spared Purgatory.

Maybe consider a local National Trust house, or an antique textiles collection?

My mum still has my christening dress. She showed it to me last month and it is teeny! I think I was only a few weeks old when I was christened.
I have kept my sons christening gown - my eldest was 7 months and my youngest was 6 months when they were baptised. My youngest was a larger baby so I was panicking if it would fit!

    Hi all,

I am still on board with KM, we,ve been finishing the house, DS2 has moved to a bigger bedroom, and all his possessions have been minimised, with his help - he was surprisingly positive about it all - he has a box of 'treasures' under his bed, sentimental things that he doesn't,t want his mates to see, it was lovely seeing what memories these 'things' bought back for him, we even read one of his books together that I used to read to him most nights when he was a little one - now 17 and 6 ft plus :)
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Well done to your DS - I didn't know you could get higher than A* either :T

Mine got an A in history, don't you know :D (we weren't expecting any As). He is calming down a bit now....

Well done to your DS, VJsmum!:j Celebrations tonight? ;)

I failed my O level History mock, with 3%... then, 28 years later, got a BA Hons... in History! There's hope for everyone! :rotfl:

Just seen the 'range of results' post. Tell DS not to worry - when he gets his next qualification, academic/vocational/experience, no one will be interested in his GCSEs. (Presumably, he'll re-sit Maths, if he might need it later?)

Second sofa has been kondoed to the tip today. We're off later to order the new ones and painter should be coming on Saturday to do the sitting room. Fortunately the room is pretty clear as he was meant to come in June! so I did most of it then. Am eyeing up what's left to make sure it's joyful enough to go back when the room's finished.

Thanks - yes, he will have to resit it. It's a boogar but can't be helped. He is talking about remark, but I think that's just cos he really, really doesn't want to resit it. We are off to 6th form college tomorrow to talk through his options - the bigger shock was the C in PE really, he should have at least got a B. He's always been rubbish at maths :p

I failed a whole year of the degree that i now teach :rotfl:

Been painting furniture again. Bit fed up with it now..

The scrap metal men have taken my kitchen bin (I did put it out for them - doesn't bring anyone joy) and a load of random bits of metal from when we had the kitchen done 7 years ago.

I need a non - lint cloth (i.e. old t shirt) to do the waxing of the furniture with. I haven't any left - all mine are too good. DH has some dodgy ones i shall see if he is willing to donate to the cause.

    ;)

Christening gowns that are in good condition and so small, may be acceptable as beautiful burial gowns for little souls?

There are supportive organisations/charities that might take them.

Keep and ear out for the News - I heard this morning that the Maths results have been rather bad, because the pass mark was raised... there may be an outcry! And they may recalibrate! Again!
