Thanks I queen for your advice, am thinking quite hard about this, you are definitely right about me keeping them because it is something I aspire to, I love the idea of cooking, I love my kitchen, but I am really not confident and am scared to try and fail, therefore stick to what I know. I have decided to sell quite a few books on Amazon with the knowledge that if they don't sell in a month or so I will give them away, have sorted out £24 to trade in with Amazon, and am still going, maybe 50 books still on the floor, and about 10 carrier bags full ready to go! And to think I actually thought I had done books already! I am going to keep my absolute favourites I.e all nigellas and Jamie's newer ones which I read for pleasure and the rest will be ones that don't intimidate me and I think will actually help me start to cook. If they don't they can turn go, hopefully I will feel less guilt and I can start to actually cook rather than just think about it. Think this is true of more areas of my life, need to read about things less, and buy less gear for an activity and just do it, the preparation sometimes takes so long I have gone off the idea before actually doing it!

In the process they had found my old school reports (I had no idea they had kept them - i am in my 50's!!!). They immediately gave them to me to take back with me which made me laugh.

We have OH's - what a riot. He hasn't really changed

PE - "shows some interest when the ball comes his way" is the stuff of family legend.

But my favourite was his house report (he was a day boy at a boarding school) "would be more useful around the house if he didn't spend so much time on his current obsession" :rotfl: Ain't that the truth :p

Hi Konverts! Have had a couple weeks off due to travel and illness, but I'm back.

I was putting away washing and noticed one line of shirts in my drawer that has been untouched since I sorted it. They were too casual for work, but I didn't want to wear them at home either. So they all got put in a bag and dropped in the charity bin before I could justify keeping them.

While I've been ill, I'd been making an effort to watch some of the DVDs I have (mainly box sets bought cheap) to see if I want to keep them or not. Have a pile now to send off. Going to check with DH if he wants to part with any of his as well. He's pretty good at letting stuff like that go. CDs on the other hand... he loves music and has so many. At least I converted him to digital a few years ago to slow the flow coming in!

My Aunt kondo'd a brand new duvet to me for DD1 to take to Uni - they brought the wrong size (it's from ik-eya so it's the wrong size for any of our covers but I shall cut it down to fit) - they paid over £100 for it (a summer/autumn click together jobbie) Whilst cutting it down to size won't fill me with joy, it will keep DD1 warm and toasty and it's one less thing for her to buy.

Any chance you can use off cuts to make a freestanding extra bit for her feet?

I had a slight epiphany re the stuff in the house today. It started when next door neighbours put up their 'For Sale' sign.

Obviously being the nosey mare that I am, I had to look on Ri**t Move. We don't get on that well but tolerate each other. I must say their house is beautiful inside- just like a show home!

This is where I had my epiphany. The reason for the loveliness in my eyes, other than the perfect decor, was the lack of clutter. Absolutely nothing out of place.

I have mused on this. The nothingness, the lack of clutter. I thought about the living room with 2 white leather sofas, a TV on the wall and a box in the corner for the kids toys. That is it! Then I look at mine- TV on lovely wooden cupboard ( lovingly made by OH), coffee table, cupboard with lamp on, 2 sofas. Same size space.

Not sure which is best - really minimal like next door or cluttered full of furniture like mine. Love the furniture made by OH but it just takes up too much space. Mm maybe when we finish the back living room it can go in there.

The good thing is that I have kondoed the smaller stuff in the room so it looks tidy if full.

I decided to sort the bedroom out in what was middle son's room. GD sleeps there now when they are over from across a very large sea! Threw out two pillows, did the over your arm test first and they drooped just enough for me to say "yes!" And in the wheelie bin they've gone. One of the 5' duvets was looking a little patchy in a couple of places, well okay I went over it with a fine tooth comb, and that can go to the RSPCA in the morning for the local animal rehoming centre. They love the big duvets because they mainly have the large hounds needing a home in there and these are nice and soft for them to lay on. I've stripped the bed and washed everything and it now looks like a room, but, I'm going to get rid of the bed and buy a new one. It is well past its sell by date although not used very often. All this mondo-one makes me want to take out the fitted bedroom wardrobes but OH won't hear of it. He said it was too expensive and a waste if it's removed. Rubbish I think. I just want to bring the space back into the room ...not too much to ask is it? ;) We shall see. I have patience ;).

    IKEA sizes are plain weird.

We've had some IKEA duvet sets that fitted our duvets fine (we have 2 single duvets on our bed, OH's is from IKEA, mine isn't), and two sets where I had to cut 8 inches off the width of the covers to make them fit properly.

The one that really irked me was an IKEA pillow that was too big for the IKEA pillowcases so we had to take it back unused, but they would only refund 90% of the cost because the packaging had, of course, been opened. How I was meant to know it was too big without taking it out of the packaging is anyone's guess.

    Thanks Igamogam
Re the show home effect. I don't think that they actually live in the house very much. Kids always seem to be at grandparents. It is lovely but it isn't a home. For a start there were no books!

Maybe it will be better when we have kondoed the neighbours. Hopefully we will get a lovely family.
