An offer of a reward card to replace a reward card would make perfect sense.

Or are you just one of those people who goes through life accepting everything without question?!

When there are a choice of rewards, some more useful than others - there is no sense in offering or accepting a card which is not very useful for you (especially when you're not a very valued customer).

Or are you one of those people who goes through life accepting anything offered without question ?! (sic)

What kind of response were you hoping for? I showed my dissatisfaction by simply cancelling the useless non-reward card they sent me.

They've basically told you nothing, but it's fairly clear from the original thread on here that:

    1. Only people who pay interest got a rewards card
    2. MBNA don't care about retaining customers

The above points are purely conjecture:

The decision on the card to offer was not made purely on those who pay interest got a rewards card and all those that did not carry balances got the non rewards card. Some who did not carry balances got the rewards card and some who paid interest got the non rewards card. There will have been a number of factors assessed when making a decision on the card to offer and profitability of account will have been one factor but even profitability of account won't just be judged on interest payments. Average spend for instance is also important as someone who puts large amounts through the card but pays in full could still be profitable if the merchant fees outstrip the cash back for instance.

MBNA like all credit card companies do care about retain customers but it is about ensuring they retain customers at the appropriate profit and risk level.

To the OP the final response from MBNA seems acceptable and doubt you would get anywhere by taking it further.

    Hi chanz4

It's worth bearing in mind that MBNA might monitor these forums, and if they were sufficiently interested, they might be able work out who you are, based on your post (especially as you've included dates).

So maybe make sure you don't say anything defamatory about them!

Good, it can only be defamatory if untrue. The post was to show others what the reasoning was behind their choices.

It wouldn't go far with the fos as its classed as a business decision however isn't this a money saving forum?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

"We do offer a number of rewards based credit cards which you can apply for"

So they say they on one hand they couldn't offer you a rewards card but then tell you they have rewards cards to apply for?!

    I was given a non-reward card.

Applied for MyRewards dual cards and got them.

Transferred my limit from the old card (not balance) to my new MyRewards, and cancelled the old one.

No amazon vouchers, but still rewards.

From a business sense it makes sense to make people work for rewards as inevitably some people won't which will save MBNA money.

No, they are conclusions drawn from all of the available data.

    just adding my tuppence.

I had an AMAZON card. Only ever got £10 in rewards as I got bombarded with balance transfer offers so ended up using it as a "pay it up" card.

They did give me the REWARD card as a replacement but as I have balances on it at promo rates, I won't be spending anything on it.

To the OP, I have a House of Fraser Mastercard and I use this for everyday spending. They rewards are double what I get on my John L Mastercard or my Debenhams Mastercard. I am happy to redeem the vouchers for their goods and am in there 3 or 4 times a year with £30 worth of vouchers. :)

Not unsurprisingly the majority of business decisions are made on a commercial basis. Not on the basis of upsetting customers which although is unfortunate is often a consequence.

Did the replacement card offer the benefits bar the Amazon branding and points?
