I was caught out by this when Kitkat first came out ... I sent a group text to 3 people and was charged for 3x MMS at 16p each.
There was no option at that time to force SMS for group texts ... when the option was introduced it never appeared in the Nexus 4 Hangouts app.0 -
One of which is that (on a Nexus 4 at least, even with Android 5.01*) it will treat group texts as MMS rather than multiple SMS. Not good if you're on a mobile plan that charges for MMS.
* There is no option to force Hangouts to use SMS rather than MMS, despite what t'interweb might say.
Quite - I found that out to my expense - and mine are 50p each
Also hangouts can not 'forward' an existing sms which i use daily - in fact it cant start an sms with 'the' message at all - all messages have to start with a contact, only then can you add a message, then you cant add anymore contacts/recipients of the message - i found it totally unusable for my specific sms needs
In the case on Nexus 4 hangouts is the default sms app so i had to download 3rd party app to get these standard featuresWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -
Exactly. Like I said earlier I am currently using Textra. Previously I was using Contacts+
Which app are you using just now?0 -

When Hangouts was released you would have the option of which to use as the default SMS app on the Nexus 4. If you chose Hangouts the previous SMS app was not removed and you could still use it or even choose to change you default back.
I know this as I have both of those phones.0 -
I'd go for some wife training and get her to ring you...0

Whatsapp is the killer.. it tells you if your messages has been transmitted, if the recipient has received it, if the recipient has read it (and when)
If you're at home you get the 'signal' from wifi, out and about it'll just use a bit of your data allowance. You can send photos/stupid little smily faces without ever worry about a bill (other than paying the 69p a year subscription).
I rarely use regular SMS anymore0 -
I would recommend viber or whatsapp. With viber not only can you send texts, but also pictures, video clips, voice clips & the inclusive stickers free of charge as well as make voip calls. If you have an android tablet viber will work on this as well. (we use it for our kids, they can keep in touch & it costs nowt). Whatsapp is also good for the message side of things but you cant call on it and you have to pay (not a lot) for it after the first year. Unfortunately whatsapp wont work on tablets thoughMy £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124
My savings from money off coupons for 2007 = £67.97, for 2008 = £194.79
My £2 savings for 2009 (so far) = £130
My savings from money off coupons for 2009 = £593.08
