Message app for Android

I have a Moto G running Android 4.4.4 and use the standard messaging app.
Are there any alternative apps that automatically display the sent time rather than the received time for texts? My signal locally is sporadic at best and its a pest having to go into message details to see when texts were actually sent.

I use Textra as my SMS/Messaging app. My signal is usually pretty good though so I'm not sure whether the times shown are Sent or Received. (I'd guess they are the Sent times ... how would you know what the Received times are unless you've requested a delivery receipt for each message? Or are you talking about texts YOU have received?)0

Yeah, texts I have received. eg today i received a text from my wife asking about something she was getting at shops. I replied straight away but she was already out the shop and halfway home. If my phone had displayed the time she's sent it (it is there in message details) i would have known it was pointless replying.0

Have a look at Handcent. I think that it can show Sent time instead of Received time.Philip0

This might be overkill for such comms, but how about whatsapp? That way, not only will you see the time that the sender sent the message, but your wife would also be able to see whether you've read it... or to call if you haven't read it?
The ticks feature within whatsapp is great for showing the sent/received/read status of messages...
Alternatively, your wife would be able to turn on delivery reports on her phone, that way she'd know as soon as your phone beeps... and neither of you would need extra software...Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0 -
Just hire a private detective to find out if she is cheating on you...forget all the app stuff0

What about using Google Hangouts. It will show you the sent time of messages and is pre-installed on to all Android Devices. It's also an IM client and so you can do voice/video calls to other Hangout users.0

Although hangouts is more of a messenger service, you are right and it can also be used as your default sms app
It does have some limitations thoughWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -
Whats app or viber really. Me and the missus use both and theyre great.
Sms is no more unless its someone wanting to tell me I can claim for a crash Ive never had.Dont rock the boat

It does have some limitations though
One of which is that (on a Nexus 4 at least, even with Android 5.01*) it will treat group texts as MMS rather than multiple SMS. Not good if you're on a mobile plan that charges for MMS.
* There is no option to force Hangouts to use SMS rather than MMS, despite what t'interweb might say.0 -

I wasn't aware of that limitation - I'll have to keep an eye out for that as Hangouts is my messaging app of choice0
