I'm a MSE newbie (first post) so will be careful to be super clear in my language for future posts. Thanks All. So does anyone think my request for a cash refund is reasonable?

Don't worry it was my mistake, I didn't read properly :o

I don't know the law but if I was in your position I would want the money back as well. Have you asked if they intend to offer any more yoga sessions in the near future on a day which you are able to attend? this might be a compromise. I do think it is bad of your instructor not to follow the course through it is only 7 more lessons, its not as if they would have to be doing it all year!
  • I've not asked if they plan to provide sessions on another evening. Thanks, will ask. suspect it's a no, but even if it's something that are considering for March or April when they have enough people interested then my credit can count for that.

To be honest, I'd be demanding that they either provide what you agreed to (yoga sessions on a Monday night) or refund your payment for the sessions that THEY are unwilling to supply.

If you decided you didn't want to go anymore, I could see an argument for a credit note or even no refund at all (since they couldn't fill that spot half way through a course). Since they're the ones playing silly beggars, there's no reason at all for them not to refund you in the same way as you paid.

If it comes down to it, write them a letter outlining your claim, and advise them that you're more than happy to go through the courts if necessary. Chances are it won't be.
  • THANKS EVERYONE!! Just sent a further email and they have agreed to process a refund for me. Turns out being persistent (4 emails) resulted in success.
