We buy any car

  • The worst thing was I felt that had I been some old dear who didn't know anything about cars they would have actually gone through with the purchase knowing that it was actually worth at least 5 times that amount in a private sale.

Yup, let's all patronise the elderly. They may have lived for 70 years, but they have learned nothing.

WBAC and WBAV are part of BCA (not franchises) and were bought inhouse after WBAC were about to sign another long term deal with Manheim Auctions and BCA didn't want to lose that volume of business.
So just think about it, the vehicles are going to be remarketed through auction and WBAC and WBAV have to stand as profitable businesses, do you think you are going to get anything, apart from a quick sale, from them?
Incidentally, Manheim didn't just go in the huff, they subsequently bought out The Car Group, who you will recognise better as their trading arm, wewantanycar.com.
It's almost as if they have remarketing cars buttoned up.
  • I was unimpressed by Webuyanycar. I had got the online value with my eyes open and didn't expect them to pay anywhere near a private sale value. I got an online value of £3350 - I felt that was fair for my 10 year old Touran in very good conditionm and was the enticement to take the vehicle in for sale to them. They rang me to confirm the condition and I explained it was a 90,000 miler and yes it may have a few scuffs from being 10 years old - excactly as you'd expect for fair wear and tear on a car that age. They didn't say this would reduce the value. I actually over-estimated how many scuffs there were - on inspection they found only a chip and a tiny scuff... our car was immaculate compared to other 90,000 milers. But they reduced the offer by £92 for those two marks, by £120 because the mileage was 500 miles more than declared 8 days before. They also said the valuation had gone down because I was beyond the 8 day limit of their valuation. In total the reduced the offer by £250. I felt this was underhand.

So it seems the advice is:
Online valuations are for showroom condition vehicles - no matter the age.
Don't exceed the 7 day quote period.
Don't give them any excuse to mark you down.

Webuyanycar has clearly a business model that they know they can find fault with any car or documentation - and that is where they make their margin. 95% of sellers don't get what was quoted, and Webuy know that few will walk away once they are in the office with their car ready to go.

    I won't use them again.

They're a bit underhand with the online valuation tactics, I wonder what would happen if you drove a showroom condition used car in there, whether they'd still try and find fault with it lol...."the tyres have been used sir" lol. :)

    Great company.
Knocked me down 60 quid from 810 to 750 and I nearly bit the guy's hand off. Literally danced off their premises.
Why on earth are folk taking expensive cars to them?
