I normally sell my cars via the classifieds but after encountering a total !!!!!! who seemed to expect dealership levels of service from a private sale of a shed and having seen a few threads on here of people moaning they want compensayshun because they have bought a banger for £600 and its needs a new windscreen wiper the week after.
I am not sure its worth the hassle and would probably trade in or use one of the we buy services for the next one.

While I've seen this suggestion that people have left it a week, there are other people who have booked their car in, then while driving to the WBAC branch, they've received a text to say "Market fluctuations means your car is now worth x pounds less, !!!! you very much", well minus the last part, but the first is definitely the case.
The only car we sent to them was given an increased quote after we left it a while, but then lost £200 in value between booking and arriving at the appointment a couple of days later. This was a few years ago now so maybe they've improved.0 -

Improved what? Their aim is to make money. They're a business.
My only problem is they take advantage of people who are desperate. People who are short of money, or have had a bereavement, you can count on WBAC, the morally empty maggots, to take full advantage and give you the lowest price, when you know deep down you can't wait for someone to come buy it online.
That's my problem with them.0 -
I got the impression that after the reduction targets were leaked by ex-employees (their commission was based on how much they got knocked off), they made an effort to try and appear less scammy to the public.
I agree though; they still prey on the desperate. Low market value, purchasing fee, express payment fees, etc.0 -
The adverts annoy me enough to never consider using them as it isNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

i was offered £750 online and offered £650 after i turned up.
It was an old car but they knocked off money for even small scratches.
When i asked about the difference in the offer the excuse was i hadnt given a detailed description when i asked for a quote online.0 -
I've no idea, but I believe they own/are owned by/are partnered with an auction house, so I suspect there's minimal costs in the way of auction and transport fees.
They do, but the auction house might be 100+ miles away, so they're either going to have to either have it driven there (unlikely) or have it transported there (expensive)
Plus the auction house is a standalone business, as is WBAC so theres still going to be fees and / or profit margin at either end.
Dont underestimate costs of motor trading. They are massive.0 -
We just sold our Honda Civic...
Initially went to WBAC, online quote was £4400 after I put in a couple of dents/chips. Turned up at the local branch to be faced by a rather un-professional looking 20 year old. He than went about 'inspecting' the car and by the time he was done the price we got an offer of....£3100 :mad:
Needless to say we walked out. I put the car on Autotrader for £4350 that afternoon (it was about £200 cheaper than similar model), and I took a deposit that evening, and got 7 phone calls about the car over the next 24hrs!!!
WBAC are a bunch of jokers, they drive down the price of a car by picking out flaws that no real 2nd hand car buyer is bothered about...If your about to buy a 7 year old Honda Civic, with 90K on the clock are you really bothered about having 5-10 stone chips on the bonnet :undecided
I think they rely on people been desperate to sell their cars, and having no idea what the true market value of their cars are.0 -
My wife got more from WBAC than honda offered as a guaranteed future value at the end of the lease. So we gave it to them, they settled the outstanding finance and gave us a grand on top, happy days.
I did get the impression that he was a bit gutted when inspecting the car though because he couldn't fnd a blemish despite his very best efforts0 -
I believe they are operated more as franchises now rather than direct for the company.
My local branch is a car dealer who then sells the cars he buys himself. If he doesn't want it, he goes over it a lot finer than something he wants.
I was selling a 15 year old saxo, and put details on WBAC out of interest. They offered 50% of scrap value, which would then need to pay their admin fee from that amount and would have left us less than £50. It took a few weeks but we sold it for £500 in the end, it just took patience and a lot of time wasters,0
