For those who have a change in their health condition, hit the end of their award, or are becoming 16, a new set of postcodes is being added on Jan 26.
If your health has worsened recently, especially if you have mobility issues and usually use a wheelchair or are getting HRC/MRC DLA because you need 'watching over' or 'supervision', you may want to think hard if you want to make an application before the 26th in these postcodes.

And yes, this is in spite of them having - at the best case - new claims for PIP taking 4 months to be decided. From 26 January 2015, PIP will be extended to postcode areas: Glasgow (G), Newcastle (NE), Warrington (WA), Wigan (WN), Durham (DH), Sunderland (SR) and Inverness (IV). This follows on from an earlier rollout in November 2014, which included postcode areas in Manchester (M), Liverpool (L), Chester (CH) and Huddersfield (HD).
Claimants in these postcode areas will be invited to make a claim to PIP where either: their existing DLA claim’s fixed term award is coming to an end, or they are approaching age 16, or we receive information about a change in their care or mobility needs, or an individual chooses to claim PIP instead of their DLA.

Hey, I think that you should also have mentioned that those who do apply before the 26th under DLA are only going to find themselves with the PIP conversion shortly afterwards - as from October this year I believe. A lot of work - two forms. Maybe they should claim under PIP and be done with it?0 -

Not necessarily racon as if someone's health has deteriorated from the time of their existing DLA claim then any increase they were awarded in their DLA would apply during the timeframe that they were awaiting to go on to PIP.
Due to the PIP transitional regulations if they applied straight onto PIP then they would be "stuck" on their lower incorrect (for current circumstances) DLA award until the decision for PIP was made and there is no backdate of PIP in these circumstances when transferring from DLA to PIP.Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...
Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.0 -

Hey, yes I can fully understand that. I was just pointing out that the national roll out will start in 9 months time. So the odds are that they will have to fill two forms in (DLA & PIP) and possibly have two medicals. Is it really worth that amount of aggravation? However I do take your point about the level of money, but to be honest what the difference is, is it worth it?0 -
Is PIP only in those area postcodes? I am in a CO postcode and my daughters child dla is being switched to PIP when she turns 16 at the end of April , according to a letter I received in December. But her dla as a child was awarded last year up to October this year, so I am unsure about the time scales. thanks0

Having googled it looks like my area is not having PIP yet! So pretty confused why I got that letter and why they want to come and assess us next week? I only had an ansaphone message about them coming as I was out, not sure if it is a meeting about me acting on her behalf or if it is in fact to medically assess her. Will need to phone them to find out for sure.0 -
Is this a daughter, coming up to 16?jacquibaby wrote: »I only had an ansaphone message about them coming as I was out, not sure if it is a meeting about me acting on her behalf or if it is in fact to medically assess her. Will need to phone them to find out for sure.
Yes, it will be to confirm you are still to be her appointee.
PIP would be in the form of a letter 'requesting' you claim PIP.0 -
hi
I am a bit confused here. I have been on dla for a long time, I get higher rate of care and lower rate mobility.my circumstances are worse as I cant walk as far.i now qualify for higher rate of mobility but have been put off claiming for it in fear I may lose altogether. just read my area will be getting letters to claim for pip after 26th jan 2015
should I wait or claim before they send out the letters? this may get my claim dealt with sooner.
what happens to my dla while I wait for the pip claim to be dealt with?0 -

if I report a change in my condition before 26th jan will it be a dla claim or a pip claim0 -
Hey, I claimed for PIP and had my indefinite DLA High mobility & Middle care taken off me after having it for 20 years with regular reviews and assessments! In return the DWP told me that I did not have any disabilities after giving me '0' points all round.hi

You will continue to get DLA until they either decide that you can have an award of PIP or you fail to get any award. Best of luck, it seems to be true that they are trying to get as many people as they can off disability benefits one way or another to save money.0 -

This is misleading - I'm a new PIP claimant but realistically should have claimed at least 12 months prior. I was put off by posts such as yours and having been rejected in the past.
I struggled unecessarily thanks to posts such as yours constantly stating that it was nigh on impossible to obtain.0
