I have social anxiety and have found it difficult to find jobs where I don't feel overwhelmed. I currently work in a small but busy office - I'm constantly on the phone to customers but there are only a few people actually working in my office and it's the ideal environment for me. I interact with lots of people which gradually pushes me out of my comfort zone, but because it's mostly done on the phone I don't find the interaction too much to cope with.

I don't think it's a question of finding a particular type of job to be honest, but researching the companies you apply to so you can work out if it's somewhere you would be happy to work. A lot of office jobs are in huge open plan offices which I know I would find a very difficult environment to work in, so I don't apply for places like that.

I would think that rather than finding a job that reinforces their antisocial/reclusive behaviour they should seek help to overcome whatever is causing this so that they become a better functioning member of society, and as a bonus, able to do a greater range of jobs.

I don't think you can push people with Aspergers like that - that's why they commit suicide with dealing with people with that attitude.. need understanding and support. Some people prefer not to deal with people as they suck..

If you're a fast typist, try transcribing. Google transcribing companies and apply for them, you may have to take a grammar test and need a fairly decent computer.

How about anything working from home?

I've recently had to start signing-on, and i suffer from Social Anxiety Disorder so asked in the JC about worrking from home. I suggested maybe some sort of self employed writing. They said i wasn't being realistic and should find a 'proper' job and write at home in my own time.

I think lots of factory jobs ca be good for reclusive people? too loud to talk with people and you just do your task over and over for 8 hours until your shift is over

Yes, and get paid a !!!!!! and miserable salary at the end of the month, what a great life that might be. What about doing what agrinnall rightly said and seek some help? Way too obvious.

Factories aren't all rubbish wages. I used to get £7.33 on day shift to £8 odd for night shifts. It can depend where you are too. People at rolls Royce around here get paid well too

........... i contribute to society in small, somewhat invisible ways.

which is factually *less* than most people. But absolutely no need for anyone to feel the need to justify or defend it. Even without a clinically defined condition there are extroverts and introverts and all shades in between. This affects people's ability (or apparent ability) to interact and contribute, but it is what it is. We can move ourselves along the scale a bit - if we want to and if we are lucky - but these changes are not going to be huge. We are what we are.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

being antisocial/reclusive does not equate to anxiety issues. A train driver *may* be a reasonable sugestion.

A friend who was agoraphobic worked as a *ahem* chat line operator; another is a online bingo host.
