Using Old Iphone

Ive recently upgraded my phone and am thinking of giving my old iphone 4s to my 7 year old to use for games etc

I dont want it wiping and resetting as he will lose all the game progress.

All content I need is now on my new phone, so do I just delete all pics, music, my apps and leave on his games?

If I connect to itunes to try and update the software. Will it know its a seperate device or will it try and sync it back to how it was?

Sorry for the stupid questions I just find itunes so temperamental & fustrating!

Yes

If I connect to itunes to try and update the software. Will it know its a seperate device or will it try and sync it back to how it was?

iTunes can handle multiple devices, it won't sync the deleted content back (unless you were to do a restore to an old back). Syncing will make a new back up minus the deleted content.
