BT and the Broadband of Doom

Hello all,
At the end of Nov I bought my own place at last (woohoo!) and decided to get phone and broadband via BT. They only do fibre where I live, so all v exciting. They arrived on 3rd December and installed it and it didn't work. After many phone calls and engineers who didn't show etc they fixed it on Sat 13th Dec, and it stopped working on Wed 17th Dec. I have since found out that my neighbour, who lives at a similar address (on a 'select address' drop down list, a pillock may mix them up) had her cut off on the 13th, and it came back on again on the 17th. So there is clearly some mess up with addresses and ports and whatnot and despite many phone calls, it still isn't fixed. I have paid them to install it and paid for line rental etc and another payment is due to go out and I have had 3 days of service.
Anyway - my reason for posting is that I don't know what to do - shold I cancel the direct debit so that they can't take any more money? Can I cancel everything and switch to another provider? I really want to get this sorted and the BB not working prevents me from working from home :-/
Thanks to all in advance,
Happy New Year,
M

Hello,
No it's not business, I work in an office but the boss lets us do 1 day a week from home to reduce petrol costs etc.
So I'm stuck with them until they fix it?

Sounds like it's Openreach incompetence as usual so switching to anybody else won't make much difference anyway.0
