Paying in instalments?

Does anyone know of any websites where you buy anything, but pay it off as and when you can... then when you've paid, the item is sent to you?

If not.. why not? its a great idea.

I want to buy a macbook pro, no way could I pay 1500 for one, but if there was a site where i could pay a bunch a month... then when I've paid it gets delivered.. it would make me ecstatic!

Cheers

Matt

How about a place where you put some money, as and when you can, a little a month maybe. It would build up over time, and then when you have enough, you could buy the item, and it would be delivered to you.

You could call it a 'savings account'.

By George, I think I'm on to something.

Saving is obviously the traditional way of achieving this but in the age of instant gratification another alternative is to sign up for a credit card with 0% on purchases and pay it off over the interest-free period, assuming of course that your credit status permits this.

And what do you do when the company goes into administration after you've made your penultimate payment (or at some other juncture)?
  • If you take that Macbook as an example then Apple already do 12 months at 0%. They'll even send you it right away rather than when you've finished paying and it'll be two versions out of date!

They wouldn't even have to go into administration, they could just take your money and never send you anything. The many fake Ugg boot websites do that all the time.

OP, please don't throw any money away. Get a cheap second hand laptop if your existing device doesn't see you through to the completion of your DMP, and start saving in a bank. If you can't trust yourself with money in the bank, look for a regular savings account that allows you to make monthly deposits but no withdrawals for 12 months.

You mean like Farepak?, although I don't think they offered Apple stuff.

There are other companies that offer savings clubs.

    But it complicates things.

Why not simply squirrel some money away in to a bank account "as and when you can"? You could even earn a bit of interest on it.

I do something simlar with Steam.
if i want to buy a game, instead of simply buying it, i put the money into a steam wallet.

then when the steam sales are on, i use whats in the steam wallet to buy the games (at a much reduced rate) and then can use whats left to buy some other games.

    :eek::eek::eek:

Why not keep your money in an interests paying current account and pay for your Steam purchases with a cashback credit card, fully paid off from your current account each month? That would be the MSE approach.

With a piece of technology the chances are that by the time you make the last payment the item will be available cheaper and/or a better item will be available for the same price.
