How comparable is BT TV to sky?

Options
My parents are moving home within the next few months. It's only 2 miles down the road, but a bit more rural and are limited in options for TV and broadband, they can't get cable/virgin. So I'm trying to look at their options.
They currently have sky with 2 boxes, one sky plus and one standard, phone line and (horrendously slow) broadband. All of this they are paying a stupidly high amount each month IMO. They are not in a minimum contract period as far as I'm aware
BT have advised that Infinity is available in the new area so this is being considered as an option. What I would like to know is how good compared to sky people think Bt is, and whether they offer things like multiple boxes, multi room etc before I get on the phone to discuss packages?
Also have people found the costs mounting up significantly from the advertised pricing as you start customising packages?

I think you description of their existing Sky broadband says a lot.

I've been a BT customer at various addresses for 45 years now and, although, obviously, there have been outages in that time, I cannot fault BT's service.

No, I do not and have never worked for BT.

I currently live 150 yards from my local exchange and get nearl 28mb speed without fibre but, if they are going to be any distance from their exchange, tell them to go for fibre.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Hi op, heres a list of the channels BT offer -

    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/46017/kw/live%20channel%20list/c/348,6300/session/L3RpbWUvMTM5MDQyNDIxNy9zaWQvRkJoRE4xTGw%3D

You will need to check if the telephone exchange for the new address is Multicast enabled, as this is required to get the all channels above. You can do that here -

    And Infinity rocks.

In terms of the broadband, Sky Fibre is a resold BT Wholesale service, so speeds should be the same-the difference will be price and CS.

  • Have moved to BT from another provider and it was the worst thing I've done. Ordered Infinity on 23 Nov, BT accepted order and took cash. After 2 appointments which BT cancelled without telling me, on the third the engineer advised there is not the capacity in the street box to give us Infinity and we can only have ADSL. Now have to wait a further week for a new home hub box to be sent, as the Infinity one is no good for ADSL. I've been sold a service BT can't provide and have now been without internet access since 9 December. Husband works from home for part of the week, so it's been a disaster

Above post has nothing to do with the question .

If husband works from home then you require a business service .

We moved from Sky to BT infinity. Faster speed better channel options (for us) for less money. BT Youview box and programme guide easier than Sky.
