Getting out of this debt!

  • Just updating my signature as DH got paid today. So pleased that the debt is in the 17 thousands so it just proves I can do it :j. Really need to stick to my budget as much as possible as last week in the school holidays we managed to spend the full £400 I had allocated but I suppose you have to have a bit of a splurge at times and the good thing was that I had actually saved for it.
I have managed to save £340 so far to the summer fund but hoping any extra cash ie DH bonus (If he earns it) will go towards paying off BC2.
Prior to this debt free journey I always hated paying chunks off the cc's but now I am seeing the balances coming down it is rather satisfying.

  • :mad:Typical my oven stopped working today, it would not be worth fixing so have had to dip into the summer holiday fund to buy a new one for £320:eek: as it is a built in double oven. I suppose at least the money was there so no more borrowing was required. On the plus side my oven will not need cleaning for a while:).

  • Pleased that the debt is almost at 17 thousand although i feel i am getting impatient and just wish it was all gone. I feel so angry at myself for letting things go this far!
I have just looked at the snowball calculator and along with DH share save in December it looks like it could take me till December 2016 to pay it off:mad:.

  • Pleased that the debt is now in the 16 thousands but feel I am getting impatient. It is hard to stay motivated but I suppose I have no choice and at least its coming down.

I have just been paid today so can update my signature, slight change though as i Transferred the balance of DH barclaycard onto my Lloyds cc as the 0% deal ends at the beginning of July. Also pleased I have still managed not to borrow any more money despite my car needing Tyres, brakes, MOT and Service and my washing machine broke. I managed to get a new one with cashback through Quidco, I dont have much left in my saving for the summer holidays but at least I have not increased the debt as in the past I would have just got the washing machine on credit. It is also my daughters 16th birthday and as planned I managed to save for her presents.

Hi just caught up with your diary, you are doing fab in 16xxx thousands already :j :j :j

I know what you mean about being impatient though.. I'm the same it seem to go down so slowly now. But we must keep going!

Great job on saving for your daughters birthday and not getting into more debt. That in itself is amazing achievement :D

    Speak soon Xx
  • Hi there,

Well done on getting in to the 16 thousands! I also find it really motivating to get in to the next bracket!

    Keep going :-)
  • Thanks DFB35 and spendaholic.
Pleased with myself as have stayed on track even though it is very tempting. I have registered for checkout smart and managed to get a bottle of coke and some burger buns for free and have successfully claimed the money back although it was a bit of a faff at first as I could not get my receipt to upload. The bottle of coke was on offer for £1 so made 85p profit as they paid me the full amount offered. I also got a voucher for a free pizza from Iceland which I will be getting on Saturday when I do my shopping! :D

  • Just updating my diary as I have managed to save £75 a month. I have done this by cancelling my lloyds premier account which was £25 a month and have now opened a NW flex plus account for £10 a month which has almost the same benefits. I did a money transfer from BC into to my bank account which has paid my overdraft off (only 1% transfer fee, but already had £50 credit on the BC as hubby complained as they had messed this up previously). So I will save £30 a month on overdraft interest, I have also changed my mortgage deal which has saved me just over £30 a month. I will pay this £75 a month off my BC, which will decrease the balance by £900 a year not like the overdraft in which the balance never changed. Note to myself I will not I repeat not! ever get an overdraft ever again!!
