Getting out of this debt!

  • Just a little update.
Good and bad, bad in that DH has just admitted that he has another £372 that he has spent at the beginning of January (withdrew money on a cc to go out and a few other bits:mad:). I am so annoyed as feel he always scuppers my plans by doing this. Apparently he has learnt his lesson:mad:. I have told him that he will have to sell some of his own stuff as i am not going too to pay it out of our budget. He works away which makes things even harder but refuse to police him like I have had to do in the past. I have said that if we could not keep up with our payments it would not make any difference to me as i would still be able to keep my job whereas he would not and I think that has given him a real wake up call.
Good in that i have sold a couple of bracelets online, I was quoted around £184 and have sent the package off (cost me £6.40 special delivery) and see how much i get back. I am going to pay this off the Very account as that has to be payed by September or they add a huge amount of interest on.
Feeling really fed up but determined not to lose sight of the end goal and how it would feel to be free of debt (not had that feeling in nearly 16 years, since i got with DH who was already in debt!)

Wow! You have made a great start with all that money saving! You should be proud of yourself. It's difficult when you OH isn't on board (even if they say they are). I think firm words are needed in that situation, so well done on giving it to him straight!

I had my LBM in October, and since then I've had highs and lows as I get frustrated and impatient that I'm trying so hard but the debt hasn't magically disappeared overnight! However, if I hadn't had my wake up call, the debt would probably (definitely) be increasing! So all the tiny steps, payments, changes are all leading in the right direction.

  • So glad to have paid some bills off and to see that my total amount owed has come down by quite a bit. Sold some gold bracelets and got £182 so paid £150 extra off the debt, I am going to keep the £32 as an emergency buffer in case anything else comes up.

  • We received £1330 today which was left from MIL who died back in November. So going to have a couple of treats but going to pay off very accounts with it. I am going to update my signature now to see how much we owe.

  • Its been a bit more complicated as usual I wont go into it but proud that I have been able to sort extra payments by selling selling some stuff on ebay and cex. Just trying to stay positive as feel that £19000 plus is still a long way to go. Now I have started being more careful with money i cannot believe how much we used to waste on buying stuff we did not need and takeaways etc. I am pleased the lightbulb is on now only wishing it had happened a few years earlier.

  • After feeling a little down about the debt I feel happy today as have made a few more payments today. I feel like i am making good progress as had saved up for DH car insurance so pleased it is paid and that it is not an extra monthly payment. I am hoping to do this eventually with all my insurances.
I have sold a few thing on eb*y and have spent some of the money on debt repayments and the rest I have kept for treats at the weekend as we are going to a concert (already bought prior to LBM).

  • Well done on your dfw journey Sick of Being in Debt..... I know it can be frustrating waiting for the monthly wage to come in -doesnt it drag! But you've still managed to pay off some debt by selling things - almost feels like a bonus doesnt it? Good luck hope you continue to make big dents in your debts.

  • Debt is now £18000 so at least I can see it is going down.
I am so grateful for this site and everyone on here as it is the inspiration and support of others that keeps me going.

Next challenge to save up £900 by summer, this will cover my 2 dd's birthdays, school uniform and money to spend over the summer holidays.

So far I have managed to save £140 towards this fund:j.
I am going to try and track my progress a little more often so I can look back on this in 18 months (hopefully debt free date!) and see how far I have come.
