Getting out of this debt!

Starting a diary to keep a record of this debt free journey.
It all started around 15 years ago when i was a student, i bought a house with my Husband and had a baby and we have been in debt since despite having good jobs.
I have just been kidding myself but feel that i cannot go on for the rest of my life like this i am now 37 and really need to get a grip of things.
I feel really inspired by the progress others are making so hope i can can get out of this debt hole in the next 2 years.
I feel really nervous about taking this step but need to make some drastic changes. I have made the decision today to not go on holiday this year (may go camping) as we usually go aboard, sad though as it is where my mum lives so means i may not see her for another year unless she comes over to see us.

Oh great just found out that my husband did not get his bonus last month (i know that i should not rely on this but do) so feel like things are even worse than before.
Anyway gonna go off and do some positive things to cut down costs as just checked my gas and electric and another supplier can change me £209 a year. Also i don't use my use my house phone so gonna ring to see how much i will save.
Does anyone know how i can make a signature at the bottom so i can list my debts, hoping to see them decrease over the year not increase like they have been.Emergency fund target £12,000 (£2589).

Hi, I've just joined too but have been an avid reader for years. To do your signature click on user cp and there is a menu on the left, click edit signature. You do need to be logged in. Took me a couple of tries but I'm not very IT minded! I feel motivated by joining, like its the first big step on a long but rewarding journey.
Good luck.Barclaycard £6800, Halifax £3600, Next £648, Storecard £2450 -

More savings today. I have bought food for us all to have packed lunches, which did not change my weekly shopping bill, i think this is due to the fact the i have planned all meals so hopefully no waste.
I have also sold an old mobile online for £24 its locked to a network so i am not sure if i will actually get that amount, something is better
than nothing as it was just sitting in an drawer.Emergency fund target £12,000 (£2589).

Thanks kindofagilr i feel like i have finally had my lightbulb moment after years of kidding myself.
Pleased with myself today as have completed a form to claim tax tax back on laundering my uniform and prof subscriptions etc for the last few years (from 2010) so hopefully that be a nice cheque in the post. Instead of spending it as i usually would i am going to pay if off one of my debts.Emergency fund target £12,000 (£2589).

Hopefully more moneysaving today. I have done a balance transfer of my MBNA and OPUS cards 0% for 18 months (everything else is either low rate or 0% apart from the overdraft.
I have also set up a direct debit to pat £100 a month so it will be paid off prior to rate ending.Emergency fund target £12,000 (£2589).

Why do other things suddenly come up. DH bought a new car back in Sept and after some probing from me he now confesses that service is not in the price. He told me previously that it was! I am so annoyed as feel that thats what got got us into this mess in the first place by keep getting so called unexpected costs. I am so angry!
On a better note got the cheque through for the phone i sold which is a good good as DH miscalculated his fuel costs for the month:mad:
Cannot wait till the end of the month so I can update my signature.Emergency fund target £12,000 (£2589).
