Thanks. On the transfer form, next to the box that asks whether you want to make a full or partial transfer, it asks you for the "Tax Year of Subscription". So I should tick the box that says partial transfer and then write 2012/2013 or any previous year?

    Yes that's right

It's only if you put current year that they need to transfer in full.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • I just found out that my Cash ISA provider (the Post Office) does not allow partial transfers at all - you have to transfer the entire ISA amount.

As I don't want to transfer the entire amount into a S&S ISA, is it possible to transfer all of the Post Office money into a new Cash ISA (that allows partial transfers) this tax year and then do a partial transfer? I have already transferred the Cash ISA once this tax year (from Nationwide to the Post Office), can I transfer again?

You can transfer as often as you like.

You can do that, but you might also consider my suggestion in #9, which would leave you with only £1000 more in your S&S ISA than you originally wanted, but leaves you free to open a new cash ISA afterwards for your remaining allowance.

But in this instance, that is not possible, because Post Office do not allow partial transfers.

No it won't be possible direct from the Post Office, but it will be possible after transferring the whole ISA to an intermediate cash ISA as was being discussed (which is why I wrote "also consider").
