Router wi-fi booster compatibility

To supplement my Netgear DG8343 Router (soon to be replaced by a new DG1000 unit) poor wifi, I have installed a Edimax N300 Universal wi-fi extender which works OK but it does mean I have to keep manually switching wifi networks between the two when moving around the house. Is there some sort of 'automatic switch-over' process I can programme in to avoid this nuisance ?
