It went on well past the '80s. I visited it frequently throughout the '90s (and presumably it went on longer than that). Loved it. Bolton Baths was also brill, but I think that's also gone?

Waterworld in Stoke, as above...In conjunction with Alton Towers :). Or, Blackpool Sandcastle (if that's what it's called) - and make a mini holiday of it?

I also remember the outdoor pool in Rhyl just off the sea front..
It's a shame these type of family places have nearly all but disappeared..have you tried the Sandcastle in Blackpool? It has been many years since I went but maybe it fits your requirements.

You'reright, Iit's a shame they've all but gone. I Googled and couldn't find any at all like the Sun Centre was. Thanks to here I've a few suggestions to check out so I'm much better off than I was, but I'm surprised there's not more.Id bet there's a market for them. Maybe I'm wrong, and that's why there aren't many of them. I used to love it at the sun centre!
I don't remember the outdoor pool off the seafront though, we literally went car, sun centre, car!

Bolton Baths were good in the 80's and 90s. ..did a fair bit of courting there!
They weren't quite the same resort type of thing as the Sun Centre though. Was the most fun swimming pool in the area though, and always packed with teenagers courting! :)

Interesting about Alton Towers having somewhere. When my daughter is a bit bigger, I might try that and go to the park as well. She's 9 so I think a bit small for Alton Towers, but she does love roller coasters so wwe'll be there soon enough!

9 is definitely not too small for Alton Towers - we take our 5yo and he has a blast!! But do it with 2-for-1 vouchers as mucho expensivo.

Ah that's really interesting to know. We 'upgraded' last year from legoland to chessington, and thought Alton Towers had mainly the big, big rides.
Might have to have a look in the summer...and a good tip about the 2 for 1 vouchers too, thanks!

The water park at Alton Towers is completely separate from the Theme Park and is aimed at a younger audience. And even with the theme park, although it has big rides they are adding more for families, such as CBeebies land that opened this year.
