Backing up to NAS drive

Once you have found out how to backup the nas drive, the next question is how to restore from the nas drive, now that your PC is down, no network connection, possibly no restoration software, and in some case you may even not be able to access the internet properly any more as all your p/w are stored on the duff pc.0

CCBoot and set up a PXE server if the NAS doesn't have the facility built in.0 -
If the OP uses the apps I linked to earlier, the backups will be simple copies of the original files, so no need for restoration software.Once you have found out how to backup the nas drive, the next question is how to restore from the nas drive, now that your PC is down, no network connection, possibly no restoration software, and in some case you may even not be able to access the internet properly any more as all your p/w are stored on the duff pc.
But it's a good point nevertheless

Excellent point. You'll need to attach your new hard disk to a working operating system to restore the disk image.
Personally, I would have a regularly imaged backup to a secondary drive (RAID if you're that obsessed) if you're backing up the entire system (including OS), and synch your files and stuff to backup to the NAS as often as you need to.
I prefer an actual old twin core pc rather than a NAS. And an occasionally connected USB backup of that. And the pc doing a Cloud synch every night. If viruses can get to your hard drive, it'll not take much for them to jump to your network drive.
And, I have discovered quite trecently, it can be quite a handling trying to get the stuff back if the NAS breaks. They do seem to have their own custom file storage systems..0
