Backing up to NAS drive

I'm looking for a program that can back up to a NAS drive. I've got a WD MyCloud and want to be able to clone my disc onto it in the event that my HDD craps out. Does anyone know of a program that can do this?

Windows has had a built in system image option since Vista. Look in backup within the control panel to find it.
  • I use robocopy , http://sourceforge.net/projects/robocoprobocopy/ but just for backing up , not for making an image as such

I used the windows built in option on mine and it worked well.

Macrium reflect - I think just imaging from the free version and complete backup package in the paid for version

Acronis True Image - paid for

+1 for Macrium Reflect free. It does an "intelligent" image backup which avoids copying unused sectors so that the resultant file is smaller than you would expect. There are two versions of restore CD, one based on Linux and a more-fully-functioned one based on Windows PE.

If you want incremental or differential backup, you need to get the paid-for version.

For file mirroring (where you can still access the individual files on the NAS without going through the restore process) have a look at Syncovery or FreeFileSync

A point worth noting, in case you didn't already know. Backing up to a nas is a slow process. Network speed is probably 100mbits/sec. Consider a usb3 hard drive (assuming you have a usb3 port) and it'll be significantly quicker backing up.

Surely most NAS boxes / PCs now have 1 Gbps ethernet connections?

    I know mine do!

Yes but do all routers ? Most older ISP supplied ones are often 100Mbps

And some even have scheduling software to back up while we sleep or do other stuff.
