Switching providers/ avoiding being charge by all of them

After a whole life with BT (phone line) and talk talk (broadband). I've just decided to move to the phone line+broadband from EE. I am not sure what to do and what to look out for, so I don't regret it after it happens. Will I be charged a whole month in advance from any of both companies apart from the charge from EE? . I am not in any contract, I paid BT a year in advance, funnily my "deal" finishes on the 4 january ( in the middle of their billing month). How does it work? How does people normally do it? I've just signed today with EE, I don't know exactly when all the service will be up and running. I don't want to be left without phone or broadband until service is active, but I don't want to be billed for a whole month in advance by any of the old companies and then billed by EE the same month as well because it becomes active. Do I have to notify them and stop the service, if so do you give a date (without you knowing an actual date)? How does people do it?

It's a bit late asking after the event. I do hope you signed up through a cashback site otherwise you are just throwing money away.
First off I hope you asked for a MAC otherwise you may get stiffed for a broadband cease charge although I'm not certain about TalkTalk as they are mostly LLU. It is usual to give the required 30 day notice that you will be leaving when you get the MAC.
There will inevitably be some overlap.
Normally the services just change over with minimal outage. Once the changeover has taken place call the old provider and confirm you have left and they are stopping billing you.
Remember to check your bank account a couple of months down the line to confirm there are no more charges from the old provider and terminate any DD. As there may be a final charge don't terminate that DD earlier.0 -
It may be worth a bit of research on EE on this forum before joining .0

I did get the MAC code from TalkTalk, amazingly when I filled the form on EE they didn't ask for it. I called them to ask if they would need it as I haven't been asked for it, but the lady said that they don't need it anymore, that the switch is automatic.
I am actually joining them because they are recommended in MSE as the cheapest broadband + land line. I have had a quick look on the forums some people is happy some people is not, I guess, like with most providers.
I called them yesterday after signing up to ask some questions I was waiting for 20 minutes (at which point I put the phone down as nobody was picking up). 3 hours later someone phoned because it seemed to appear that in their system there was an indication of a query (?) I said I didn't know about it, "I just signed up this afternoon with your company".....I was then going to take the advantage of asking the questions I was going to ask in the afternoon, but I was cut short after that sentence with a "OK, byeee", and the guy put the phone down. I AM NOT REALLY IMPRESSED! Hubby said "is this the way they treat new customers? then what is gonna happen when we have any problem?"
We only use phone for access to broadband apart from the odd call (maybe once a month) I was paying £11 with BT +£10 with TalkTalk, EE seems to be the cheapest option.0 -
There is usually a difference between cheapest and best. Hopefully once it is all up and running you won't need any support anyway.0
