We are currently on the EDF duel fuel until Feb 15.

Energy Club recommended we switch and top pick was Co-operative Energy Fair and Square March 2016 | Fixed till 31 Mar 2016
Savings on what you would've paid£362/year

I made the switch and this is the email confirmation from MSE:
Your application to switch your energy supply to Co-operative Energy Fair and Square March 2016 is now in process. We reckon you'll be paying £ 362.27 per year less than if you'd not switched.

if I read this right, saying I am better off NOT switching????? Or has MSE made a mistake?

  • You will be paying x hundreds less, than if you'd done nothing. I can't see the problem?
  • Did you compare the Co-Ops Fair & Square deal against EDF Energy's current cheapest tariff the Blue+Price Promise May 2016 using your estimated annual consuption, or did you compare it against your projection which will include EDF Energy's Standard (Variable) tariff after Feb 15?

my current tariff from Energy Club details:
Blue +Price Promise February 2015Early exit fees: End date: 28 Feb 2015
    Costs£1,863/year £155/month

dual fuel tariff is due to end in 1 month and 25 days. If you don't switch, your supplier will roll you onto its standard tariff. Your cost and saving calculations are based on 1 month and 25 days on 'EDF Energy Blue +Price Promise February 2015' and 10 months and 6 days on the standard tariff.

I am confused, Energy club tell me what my project savings are, but email says I would have saved if I did not switch ..??

You will be saving £362.27 had you not switched, as the email says.

Well firstly the email is quite straightforward. It is saying you would have paid £362 more if you had stopped with EDF. But that was based on 11 months of the EDF standard tariff you would have moved onto after Feb. You will not save £362 on your present Feb 2015 tariff.
You would have saved quite a bit if you had moved within EDF onto their latest fix of May 2016. They have been bringing out a succession of cheaper tariffs almost monthly.
The good news is that Co-op does beat this tariff for me by a small amount £50 a year so I have not switched, being quite happy with EDF.

sounds like I need to cancel my transfer and recheck and understand my current tariff. Just checked and EDF now offer online a longer fixed price tariff till May 2016.

But is it cheaper? Longer fixes tend to be more expensive.
  • Go to https://www.edfenergy.com/til and check the rates, then check the rates you will pay with the Co-Op.

Re-read what you said they emailed you. It does not say that.

"We reckon you'll be paying £ 362.27 per year less than if you'd not switched"

"will be paying £362.27 less than if you had not switched"

    Do not cancel your switch.

I now switched to the EDF 2016 deal online tariff changed. I rather cancel the Coop deal for now and recheck as the email from MSE really confused me!
