Private parking ticket with wrong VRN

Hi all

Apologies if this has already been answered but I couldn't find it.

Last night I went to the cinema and parked in a UKPC car park. This car park was previously pay and display until 20:00 so I only paid for an hour (as we arrived at 7:40) thinking this would cover us to the end of paid parking time. It is clearly worded on the sign having looked at it after getting the ticket that it says something along the lines of 'Parking charges apply at all times'.

After looking at the ticket, I realised they had made a mistake and changed my VRN from xxxx Wxx to xxxx Exx. A simple typo I guess.

Having looked on their website, they have a clear picture of my car with the correct number plate on it.

Technically I paid until 20:40 and got the ticket at 20:55 so I guess I was in breach of the rules of parking.

I was going to ignore the ticket due to it having the wrong VRN on, but am not sure seeing as they have photos of my actual VRN.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Assuming that (i) this is in England or Wales and (ii) it's not a company, lease or hire car, just wait and see what happens. They will probably apply to DVLA using the incorrect reg, which if it exists will probably lead to them sending a Notice to the wrong person. Or if it doesn't exist they might look at the photos and discover their error, which might lead to them being too late issuing a Notice under POFA 2012 Schedule 4.

So just wait and see what happens, if anything.

  • Thanks for the advice.

It was parked in England and is my own car.

The incorrect vehicle reg is actually another vehicle so I guess the owner of that car will be getting an unwanted letter! Apologies!

How long do they have to issue a Notice under POFA 2012 Schedule 4?

If they check the photos and find they have the wrong VRN before then, am I just going to end up having to pay?

    Thanks again.

It has to arrive between day 28 and day 56, counting from the day after the parking event.

No of course you are not going to pay, this is UKPC for goodness' sake, no-one pays them after learning how to appeal!

It does not matter about the NTK because the NTD (driver) is invalid.

So they already missed their chance to invoke keeper liability. Keep the NTD as you will need it in any POPLA appeal

    LOL no!

Not even if they'd got everything right and you were bang to rights parked sideways across two parent and child bays! DO NOT PAY A PRIVATE PARKING TICKET.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • So just got a NTK letter from UKPC requesting I pay the parking ticket.

This is within the 56 days since the incident. What is the next thing I need to do to avoid paying this parking ticket?

    Thanks in advance.

appeal it using the template letter in the sticky threads (NEWBIES thread)

do not mention who was driving, but attach a copy of the ticket and point out their due dligence has failed to spot the typo errors made so you expect a cancellation

keep the original paid for ticket very , VERY safe

if sending by snail mail, get free cert of posting at the PO
  • Apologies for only posting this now but I've just noticed that on the NTK it states:

"This parking charge notice supercedes <number of previous PCN> which has been reissued."

I'm just wondering if this changes anything? Seeing as the original ticket was given on 1st of January 2015, can they effectively issue a new ticket 40 days after the first ticket was given?

The fact they haven't even punctuated the letter correctly says a lot about them...
  • They can do what they like.
    It's a scam !

It changes nothing. They make their own rules as they go along. Its a bit like playing chess with a pigeon. You might be a grandmaster but they walk on the board knocking the pieces over then say they have won.
