DPD delivery timeslots

Praise for getting an hourly delivery timeslot but amusement too...
Your order will be delivered today between 11:23-12:23

An hour slot starting and ending on a minute boundary???
I'm pretty sure they always do this rather odd thing as I've noticed them before.

So I had one order with DPD, my housemate had another. Both same address.

Mine was 12.44-13.44 and his was 12.45-13.45....

Though I have found DPD one of the best couriers. Don't start me on Yodel. I do like the way you can see where your driver is. Wonder what would happen if you went to see them to collect rather than wait around?

I like the driver locator. I was waiting for an Iphone which was due at 2pm. At 12pm the dot was about 20 metres from my address and was just stuck there for an hour. I wandered down the road and found him just asleep in his van. I left him to it and the phone was promptly delivered at 2pm.

Very good company to deal with

i get a good bit of stuff from DPD, so i know the driver, so i have on occasions gone in search of van and got my stuff early. sometimes he is pleased as it means he has not to come down our lane which can be a pain sometimes

    That makes perfect sense.

Imagine the driver has (to make the maths easy) 72 packages to deliver in 6 hours. That's 5 mins per package on average. At the start of the day they can thus determine a nominal delivery time for each package.

Assume they know he sets out at 8:03 and yours is the 46th package.

Your nominal delivery time will be 11:53.

Thus to allow maximum flexibility for faster or slower deliveries they set the start and end times 30 mins each side of the nominal time.

An excellent service that works well for everyone.

The PDA that the DPD drivers use will not let them accept a signature until the allotted time to discourage them from speeding. We've had the DPD drivers in our reception with the clock on the PDA counting down to when we can sign.
    The man without a signature.

I am a big fan of DPD, and I've emailed them to tell them so. They used to be Amazon's courier of choice around this way, but they then switched to the woeful Amazon Logistics, and we rarely see them any more. Their one hour timeslots let us get on with things - walk the dog, pop to the supermarket, meet up with friends - knowing that we're not coming home to one of those "Sorry we missed you" cards.

IMO, it's a definite model of how things should, or at the very least could, be done by other couriers.
