O/S Daily Friday 2nd January 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Hi everyone,

I've not been able to post because we had a very busy Christmas and also the laptop needed repair. I read the thread most days but couldn't bear to post on my phone.

We had a lovely time with friends and family at Christmas and New Year and now have a wedding to look forward to this year. Last year mum's life was drawing to a close and things were much bleaker so I hope this year will be much happier.

We're in Yorkshire but will be gong home later today and hopefully spending some time with DS and Gf this weekend. DD spent New Year in Mull with friends and will be going home tomorrow but I'll see her soon for dress shopping.

I'll be back at work on Monday but I want to get a new quilt project on the go before then - I've not sewn for nearly two weeks now so I'm looking forward to it.

Have a good day.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, very windy and mild.

DH and myself up, I’ve just had a shower and he’s now in the bath. DS1 and DS2 still in their pits.

Lunch yesterday was the frozen pork joint with stuffing in it, it was a large joint and took ages to cook, but it was very tasty, certainly will have something of that sort in the freezer for emergencies. Just had a bit of a chilled day yesterday, today DH and myself have Opticians appointments, I’m thinking I’m going to need a new pair of specs – we’ll see what they say. I’ll also get some washing the machine, there’s not a huge amount but I didn’t’ do any yesterday (as I’m a bit superstitious, sp?) there’s plenty of ironing though, menfolk had been putting the WM on whilst I’ve been working in between Xmas and New Year so the pile is huge, will do that tomorrow afternoon whilst DH is at his meeting.

Will spend some time today starting the jobs that need doing, and also menu planning and completing a shopping list for tomorrow.

Take care x

Keep safe and well x

Ooooh lots of new people, coffees all round :coffee::coffee::coffee: Someone else will have to supply the biscuits because I've eaten all of mine :D

There was an extra body in the house yesterday morning – miss tru's boyfriend :D They didn't fancy a roast so me and mr tru had that, master tru cooked omlettes for the three of them.

I'm going to go through the spreadsheets later and make sure I'm set up for the year. I need to go through my photos, I'm sure I've duplicated some in different folders so I'll get rid of the extras. Then run scans to make sure the laptop is OK – it's running a bit slow and doesn't always do as it's told.

I'm debating whether or not to go into town, I'll put some tidy clothes on after my shower then see how I feel :D I could do with getting out for a bit and the fresh food needs topping up. I have around £30 in Boots points and some vouchers for Soap & Glory so I might buy my birthday present then give it to mr tru to hide until my birthday :D

Morning all

Welcome to all the new faces, good to see you!

A very windy night here with rain but this morning it is calmer and dry, wish DS2 had a garden as it would be a good day to put washing out. DD went home last night so I stripped the bed, put it on the aired and it's dry this morning. Ironed and back on the bed for DS coming home. I will do mine in the morning before I leave and leave it to dry.

Felt strange to be on my own in a country where I don't speak the language but I've done it before. A couple of hours in and I stop panicking!

Going to the market in a while, they have very good tea towels for €1 each so will get some for my own house. Also saw some nice mugs in a SM that I will get. I have a very large suitcase to take back that is just about empty. It will be nice not to have to struggle with the 23 kilos I brought out. That along with the rucksack containing an XBox and 3 large cookery books made for heavy going!

Off for a shower now. Take care. Xx
• Good Morning all.
Yesterday was really nice as we just spent quality time together as a couple all day. DD spent the entire day in her room as she was out all NYE and was shattered bless her.
Had fish in breadcrumbs with jacket pots and sweetcorn last night as im back on the diet. No idea what we are having tonight though.
Off to view a house today and i am hoping that the inside is as nice as the outside as its a good price for the area we want. so fingers crossed.
Must put the WM on today as i couldnt bring myself to do it yesterday as i kept hearing my mums voice telling me "wash on NYD and wash someone out of your life" silly but i still couldnt do it, so a few loads for me today.
I have started to keep a planner daily to keep me in line for spending and chores and to dos, and it looks like i could work well with it.
Hoping the CS at the bottom of our road is open today as i have seen a nice jumper in there through the window i like and most of mine are more than threadbare now.
Need to mend my coat as well before DH buys me an other. Not that i dont want him too but i love my coat as it is waterproof and so warm i dont want to throw it out.
Got to try and get the boy into the vets at some point over the next week as over xmas he had another lump appear on his leg, nothing serious just another cyst but it still needs to be checked.
Anyhoo after reading this back i realise i have loads to do and sitting here on my laptop wont help.
So hugs to all who need them x
Bright Blessings xx
• Morning everyone!

Thanks for the inspiration yesterday, the decs are down and the house is looking a bit neater, still a long way to go to get it back to how I like it though!
I also decluttered a few bits from my wardrobe and resolved (again) that this will be the year I will shift a few pounds and go shopping in my spare smaller clothes boxes instead of the shops, I have some really nice things in there.

The wind was awful last night, one trellis off the wall and my parking space gatepost has snapped - fortunately the one for holding it closed, so it will be permanently open for a few days now. I'm still working up the nerve to go up the garden to check the roof is still on the house:eek:

Have a canny day:)

Good Morning all and normal service is resumed in my house. I am back from all my jaunting around for the Christmas and New Year period, and my house wants a jolly good decluttering I think.

I just have to pop to DDs this morning so we can finish off the last bit of papering There is a spare roll to go back to B&Q and at almost a tenner a roll its certainly going back :):):) so once the dining room is done I shall be off up there to return it .

NSD buying wise as I am definitely working through my cupboards and freezer this month I have just done all my accounts for the coming year and although I am solvent I want to try to get a bit more 'rainy day' money stashed away.Right time to have some porride before I tackle the last bit of DDs dining room.
Cheers everyone, hope you all have a good day

• Good morning all. It's a lovely looking day outside as the sun is shining and fairly blue sky.

Have been up for a while trying to phone the garage as my car has a handbrake problem and needs towing to them to be fixed but they seem to still be closed for New Year! Luckily I can walk to the shops today but will need my car to be up and running sometime next week. Grrrrr.

Foodwise I've defrosted some chicken from the freezer and we'll have that tonight with some roast potatoes and the last of the carrots and green beans from Tuesday. Going to make a banana loaf once I've been out to get more eggs then just need to top up on milk and buy a newspaper.

Can't decide whether to start taking down the Christmas tree today or leave it until Sunday - decisions, decisions eh?

Have a lovely day everyone.
• Morning all. I'm ready with my coffee, but sadly no biscuits. I do still have a pannetone tho if that helps?

It's dentists this afternoon to get my chipped tooth looked at. Thankfully I have an NHS dentist!!!

I should probably get some cleaning done before it's back to work - all I want to do at the moment is sit watching the boys soaking it all in. I miss them when they go back to school. Time goes too fast!!!
