Limited Capability for work form

I just wondered if anyone knew where my sister could get help filling in this form. The CAB don't have any appointments in time and neither do the local disability service. It does say you can contact your local Job Centre for help but she's worried they won't be very sympathetic as she's had problems with them before. Thanks.

  • She could ask to see the disability advisor @ JCP - they may help. Failing that google ESA descriptors - print them if needed - have a good read of them & see which ones she might meet in both the WRAG & Support Group ones. Then use those to help complete form. She needs to tell them why she meets the criteria for whichever ones she meets adding in as much detail as possible.

Has she been in touch with the local welfare rights service from the council. They can point her to someone who can help

Have a thorough read of this:

    http://www.actionforme.org.uk/Resources/Action%20for%20ME/Documents/get-informed/esa-filling-in-the-form-factsheet.pdf

Although it has been produced for ME sufferers it does give some very useful pointers for completing the form.

At the end are some useful contact numbers you can also try for help/support.

Hey, it is doubtful that these now exist. At best, there are one or two councils down here in the South West that will help out but only if the claimant has an appointed Social Worker working with them. No Social Worker allocated - no help.
Mind you I do hear that in the North West (Manchester/Liverpool) they actually have WRO on the high street giving a walk in service. Seems that people in the North need more help and are more likely to be on benefits than those in the South.

They definitely do exist here in N/East Scotland as I used them recently. No social worker needed

Hey so it seems that it is a North/South divide?

Our council decided to cut services which included many that were there to help people. Public toilets were closed (some were sold off for re-development), grass in all but the public parks was left to grow (many householders took it upon themselves to carry out the work). Many community projects were closed down such as a re-cycling plant. They even sacked 50% of the Community Wardens giving the remaining 50% twice the area to cover. Mind you they did increase the number of traffic wardens and litter patrols!!!
Our DIAL office closed through lack of funding and the CAB's had to cut back with the loss of all employees that were funded by the Legal Aid.

We have had many, many cuts here too. At least the public toilets are still free! Welfare rights tend to put you in touch with a charity of which there are many which people don't know of to help.

Hey thanks, that presupposes that you can access a 'Welfare Rights' organisation in the first place. In my town, the only one left is AgeUK, which is unfortunately age restricted.
A free pee!! I wouldn't mind paying if I could find one. The local council issued a dictum to all pubs, offices, shops and traders that they had a duty to allow the general public use their toilets should their need arise and with no charge being levied. To say the least that didn't go down too well!
