I don't remember seeing any flowers on the gooseberry, but I wasn't paying close attention if I'm honest.

I have gooseberries on the new plot :) 3 or 4 bushes that don't look like they've seen any secateurs for a few years  trying to clear around them is time consuming because I'm trying not to get stabbed by the thorns! There is slow progress though :)

I've also got raspberries in the same bed. Well, i *think* they're raspberries, I'm pretty sure I saw raspberries on them in November when we viewed. Problem is that I don't know if they are summer ones or autumn ones. The canes are brown and there is new growth on them, so I *think* they are autumn ones, as my summer canes are green.

I wanted to get some onions in at the new one today but the soil was far to wet :(

I'm giving up my job soon so will have plenty of time in the next couple of months to get both plots up and running :D

I'm so looking forward to getting things going- potatoes chitting amd seeds being sown in the propagators :j

  • Hi All,

Just got my new allotment so spent all weekend going through seed catalogs and convincing my OH to build me a polytunnel. Its going to be a busy and hard few weeks to get it all dug over and up and running. Glad to be starting earlier this year - and glad to finally have an allotment - I have been growing in containers on a balcony for too long!

Cant wait to follow everyones progress and share mine.

I'm not gonna lie - I am a very nesh person, but we braved the allotment this weekend and dug up loads of jerusalem artichokes which we were given last year. No idea what I'm gonna do with them, but they looked impressive when growing - around 7 foot tall!
  • Did you know that Aldi do a range of 24 different vegetable seeds for 39p each. Anyone tried these?

  • Thanks for the list ClarieJ23. I was going through my seed box at the weekend and need to get some radish and cucumber seeds, everything else I have left over from last year.

Thanks for the list. I will take a look in my local Aldi for these.
  • Not much happening here in the way of gardening. Weather too bad - its wet, snowy and windy so nothing done recently. I will take a look in Aldi for those seeds and maybe sow some herbs indoors.

I really need to clean out my potting shed and sort through things for later in the year. At the moment I can hardly get a foot in the door as in packed full with garden furniture, the lawn mower and a bike that I have never used . I am going to try and sell the bike to create some funds for garden purchases. Now I just need to get out in the wet and take a photo of it.

Aldi and Lidl both. No issues there, will buy again from both. Lidl Peppers were difficult but that may be my very personal problem with growing peppers, lol.
