When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym :D

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money: :rotfl: :j
Debts at the start of my journey - about £23,000 lightbulb moment 01.03.2007 (1st payment to CCCS)..Debt Free Date 25.06.2013 Deposit savings £17,000/£30,000

Morning folks - Happy New Year to you all !

Wide awake nice and early as we were asleep at 10pm, so thought I would make good use of the time and post on here. Posting on the iPad and cannot put a smiley in the title - when I get on the PC I will correct this

Lots of opportunities today to make small differences, today I have/will:
    • checked online banking - moved odd money to my isa (me fund)
    • made a small payment towards my credit card - this will be gone by the end of the year
    • checked that my large paynent to credit card is showing
    • will update my spready with the bills which have been paid
    • meals from stores
    • read papers online
    • will freeze the soup i made at the weekend - leaving 2 prtions out for today and tomorrow (made the soup for work but as there was no restaurant this week the bosses bought sandwiches/pizza etc
    • may well count my coke bottle savings and put the total on my signature
    • need to update my signature to show cc total
    • need to review my 101 list and see what I can achieve this year and update the list
    • must take my measurements today
    • must start my ww journal for my kick-!!! year ! (I get free membership as I am a helper)
    • must do college work - otherwise i will never be qualified and this would have been a waste of time
    • aim on having an NSD

Think that is enough to get me started !

    Have a great day all

  • I'm a bit giddy as this is the first day of my new start!

    My aims for today are:
    Submit utility readings
Move overtime payments from current account to savings account
Carry out an audit of all supplies in the house ready for the supermarket shop at the weekend
Complete a meal planner for next week and write the shopping list
Try and get my head around the second purse challenge!
See what other challenges I can participate in!

Best of luck with your list :)

Good morning Candy thanks for starting the thread. Hi to Wooftastic too :)

So it's the new year! Pinch punch white rabbits and all that.

We stayed up till about 1 watching the fireworks. We didn't have much choice as it was so loud and bright. Think Bo Jo must have spent a fortune. Good use of public funds that. Saw so many Chinese lanterns going up which worried me terribly as it kills birds :( but aside from that it's a bank holiday so we are all home again which is lovely. Going to miss my OH when he goes back next Monday.

Today I will be using up leftovers from yesterday & Tuesday. One of us can have soup & one shepards pie for lunch. Then tonight I will use half the sausages from the YS pack to make a sausage & onion bake.

Should be a NSD as most things will be closed anyway. Will be reading my favorite financial blogs & someone on here saw me saying I wanted to get hold of The Tightwad Gazette and has kindly offered to send it to me. So massive excitement! !!

Wombling totals begin today in earnest. As do roadkill scores. I'm going to aim to find £60 this year.

Well good luck to all & happy 2015.

    Bob

    Morning all :j

Up bright and early too - I went to bed early but didn't sleep that well due to fireworks / passing revellers. Wouldn't want some of their heads this morning :rotfl:

    Babysitting today, so small list:
Cereal, yogurt and banana for breakfast, to use up a banana and make a healthy start :)
Clean round so that baby GD isn't crawling round in dog hairs etc Done
Stew in SC for tonight, using some reduced beef I got in Waitrose yesterday, and leeks from the garden Smells great, just waiting for the dumplings :D
Aim for a NSD - can't think of anything I need :)Nothing spent :D
Put washing on airer later, as it is going to be murky and cloudy all day, and rain later :( Can't do it till baby has gone home though as she pulls it all off again :rotfl: Must do this after supper
Minimum heating to keep it comfortable for baby, and light the woodburner later, remembering to fill the kettles for on top, for free hot water :)Actually lit woodburner early, despite it being warmer temp wise, it is windy and damp and it felt colder indoors :( Nice and warm now though, and I have already used two kettles of hot water, and put them both on again :D Radiators downstairs are firmly off!!

I am sure there will be other things, but that is all I can think of for now.

Hope everyone has a nice day - oh and Happy New Year :D

My coke bottle savings is a giant plastic money savings jar in the shape of a coke bottle... It gets filled with 50p and under. It's not worth putting the savings in the bank as the interest is so poor and it is nice to see the savings grow :j

Ah ha I see. See I am the opposite of you as I don't believe in saving coins. I'd rather use them up as I find them at the supermarket or to pay for travel. I take the view that by using up what I have it allows my main money pot (in the bank) to work harder for me, make over payments etc. But I respect anyone who has the patience to do the sealed pot challenges. We are all different after all.

My NSD did not last long. Opened fridge, no bread, or milk, so went to local SM and spent £14.97 on stuff to keep me going until sat delivery.
Have then cleaned the yard, 4 bin bags of rubbish. All man stuff.
    Fed the birds.
Done washing, cleaned kitchen, done DishW and put on Cawl.
I might make a beef pie for tomorrow as I think there may be lots of young people here who will have all worked over xmas and new year. So they can pig out on pie and mash.
Currently procrastinating wondering where to start next?
    Must focus. 1 DRAWER
  • Happy New Year everyone!

I haven't posted for a little while, but have still been reading daily.

We went to a friend's house to see in the new year and it was great - took drinks we had in from Christmas and only needed a taxi one way, so very inexpensive too.

Came home and then bought YNAB with the 75% discount - I've been trialling it and was going to buy it anyway. I had been keeping an eye on steam, but would have missed it if it wasn't for yesterday's thread. I was reading it whilst waiting for our lift and didn't have time to buy it before we left - so at 2am I was straight onto the computer to buy it - there was no way I was going to miss it!

Had a lovely lie in this morning, we're off to the in law's today, but I won't be drinking as I'm back to work tomorrow :(

Here's to a debt- busting new year to all!
