UK CPM - never heard of place and no number plate visible in the photo

  • Ok...
The car is 15 years old and the 'offence' took place 86 miles away.
I didn't want them to have to respond to the company as it seems so dodgy but I guess they should based on this feedback - and probably report it to the police as well then.
    Thanks everyone.

It certainly seems very odd that the number plate in the photo is blank. They are definitely not up to the racket you outlined but I wouldn't put it past them to be up to something, although I can't think what. Perhaps demand a photo which has a readable number plate, and if they can't or won't supply it report them to DVLA for requesting keeper details without reasonable cause?

It would be really handy if you could prove the car was in a different place at the time of the alleged offence.

Why not contact the DVLA and complain anyway? Send a copy of the photo with blank number plate as proof that it was an unreasonable request.

    Yep, good point.

  • The time of the 'offence' is around midnight so no real proof as we were at home in bed! I think I'll go with the suggestion they request the company check the number plate again and/or provide a better picture as the car was nowhere near the area and see what they say.
Thanks again everyone - such a nuisance!
  • Just seen the suggestion we send the illegible photo to the DVLA - also a good one which I will suggest - thanks!

Hi Everyone - just wanted to update that my dad emailed the DVLA on the address above and has received a 'we're investigating it' reply so will update again if anything comes of it. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Received an email from DVLA (extract below)

'The parking company UK Car Park Management Ltd have confirmed the parking charge notice issued to you has been cancelled and all data has been destroyed.
When issuing the Parking Notice Charge the warden entered the incorrect Registration Mark.'

This is obviously a good result and my parents are relieved, but I can't help thinking something fishy was going on... How could they possibly know the reg was entered wrongly? and how did the cars match so closely??

Anyway, I'm not a conspiracy nut and if this never happens to anyone else I'll be happy... but if it does, email the dvla on the foi address mentioned above.

    Thanks again, everyone.
