Online Credit File Appplication - Experian

Hi
Just out of interest does anyone know why, when you apply for your £2 statutory credit report from Experian online it takes "up to four days" to let you know when your report will be available?
I think that this is an excessive period of time seeing that when you apply for credit the report can be checked automatically.
Or perhaps I should actually be signing up for their Credit expert report? Also funny how when you go to their site it is hard to find the tiny little link to request your £2 report which is listed under "Other" in tiny print at the very bottom of the page. The page is full of "sign up to Credit expert for free" now stuff. This could be really misleading to someone if they weren't sure what they were looking for.
Or perhaps I am just overly cynical....

I'm sorry to hear that you've found it difficult to locate the information regarding timeframes when ordering your Experian Statutory Credit Report.
When selecting which type of your Experian Statutory Credit Report you want to obtain if that be by Post or Online you can find the processing timeframe on this page before continuing with the order application.
If you choose to view your statutory credit report online, you will be issued a unique Passkey which will allow you to log in to a secure area of our site and view your report. The Passkey will be posted to you within 5 working days.
The cost of ordering your statutory credit report by post is £2 (non-refundable) and takes up to 7 working days to arrive, but may take longer if we require additional verification documentation.
I hope this helps, once you receive your Credit Report, if you have any questions or concerns please get in contact with us we would be happy to help.
Kind Regards

Dear James
Thank you very much for repeating the information that was sent to me in the automated email.
It still does not explain why it takes 7 days to access a statutory report online. That is a long time in comparison to 'instant access' when you take out the Experian CreditExpert at £14.99 per month.
Please can you explain why your company takes so long to send details to access a statutory report, yet this access is available instantly to people taking out a free trial of CreditExpert?0 -

"Yet this information would be available instantly if I signed up to CreditExpert. Sorry not buying it!:
CreditExpert is access to your credit file, the statutory credit report is just that; a report of your file.
Experian need to covert your file into said report. The £2 online version is the same version they post to you.
Your quite with in your right not to buy itAll that glitters is not gold.0 -

And it's funny how when you sign up for your £2 statutory report with Equifax it is available online automatically for you to view and/or download. Surely Experian must be using the same levels of technology?
I wonder if James from Experian can explain why they are so behind the times?0 -

The answer is obvious. Many people who wish to view their report are doing so in anticipation of an application for some sort of credit facility and do not wish to wait a week. Experian rely on this and hope that instant access will encourage people to sign up for the CreditExpert service rather than a £2 statutory report.
There is no other explanation. Like you say, both equifax and callcredit/noddle do not have the same ridiculous system.
Also, for someone who accesses their report every few months it's not like Experian need to check your ID or anything. I could almost understand if it was the first time you were viewing your credit report with them.
I wonder what James from Experian thinks when he is not wearing his Experian hat. What are your true thoughts James!!0 -

I completely agree. I applied for my Experian file for the first time last July so thought it was time for another check as I knew and old default was due to drop off at the beginning of December and wanted to check that it had.
I have just got my Equifax £2 file with automatic access no problem, and also applied for my Callcredit £2 file for the first time, once again no problem and automatic access. So Experian can't use 'security' as an excuse, especially if you sign up to pay £14.99 a month the access is automatic!
No word from James yet...0 -

It may be a business but it is a statutory report that I or anyone else has the right to receive. People rely on being able to obtain these reports transparently, quickly and easily to ensure that information held on them by these agencies (or should we say businesses?) is accurate. After all you just have to read this site to see that so many people find that they apply for credit and are rejected only to find incorrect data is held on their reports by these "businesses".
From reading the posts where people complain that they can't seem to cancel free trials from the credit reference agencies there is no way I would sign up to one of these offers, that is my personal preference. If I have to pay to see my data (which I personally believe should be free but that is another story) I would rather just pay the £2. But after payment I expect to be able to obtain the information they hold on me speedily and efficiently, not wait a week or so for a passcode to be posted to me.
Am I honestly asking too much seeing at the two other agencies can provide automatic access?0
