HMRC does class step children so therefore too would class step siblings as close relatives http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/tctmanual/tctm02520.htm
    Sorry already referred twice.
  • Has your step-sibling evicted you yet due to non payment of rent seeing as this is a commercial arrangement? Nobody would allow a tenant to live rent free in their home without showing them the door.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

A step sibling is not a step child, so as a step sibling isn't listed I'm going with they don't class a step sibling as a close relative.
    It's someone else's fault.

How did they know that your LL is "a child from a previous marriage of my fathers second wife"?

They didn't give any explanation or ask any questions about it. Just said it had been declined as I am living with a ' close relative'

I still don't understand how they know that your LL is a "close relative" if they didn't ask and you didn't tell them about the relationship.

yes you can rent from a close relative.i rent a house from my sister she owns and rents out properties
You can't if they live in the same property. The close relative has to live elsewhere.
