If there's no cars behind I leave them out there, overtaking when there's 0.1k's speed difference is pointless, otherwise back off.
Yep, just back off & slot in behind. It'll make no difference to your journey time & it's a lot more relaxing.JustinR1979 wrote: »An annoying thing is a number of vans limited to 56 too.
I think they should all differ by 1mph, say vans 56, rigids 55, artics 54, or something like that.
Possibly something to look at but driver common sense has to be a priority, sadly it seems lacking these days.
Just to add, my unit has just had new tyres fitted & will now do a mindblowing 57mph... I go giddy at the thought :rotfl:Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

CPC will sort it out! Lol.
Always nice new tyres. but I find these newer lorries over read by 1/1.5mph according to satnav. Not sure which one to believe, but as you mention tyres are a variable.
Lorry today was reading 91k's, was still getting overtaken.0 -
Yes bring it on, shove all the lorries in the inside lane.
Quite how the OP expects to enter or leave the motorway at junctions then is a mystery, as there'll be a snail convoy averaging about 15 mph in the inside lane as far as the eye can see.
What you going to do nose out into the second lane with cars whizzing by 60mph faster, that'll be fun to watch....and how do you expect to exit, same thing drop instantly from 75 to 15 to cut up another of those horrid lorry drivers, that'll be fun to watch too.
If this comes off i'm going to invest in a car bodyshop, early retirement with civil service and MP lifestyle guaranteed.
Maybe goods should go on the canals or trains instead, wouldn't want to hold anyone so important up.0 -
Oh please, if the lorry in front is doing 50 mph, and they are doing 56. They can drop their speed, and save a bit of fuel. The shops are not going to be empty, because lorries are slightly slower.
That's utter nonsense, slowing down does not save fuel.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

On the A42 near Ashby de la Zouch there was (still is??) a restriction at peak times on HGVs using the 'fast' lane of the two lane road. It is a section of road like a big dipper with long hills up and down so it could take ages for an HGV to complete an overtake.
I have always thought it just needs the overtaken driver to slow down a smidge and the overtake would be completed a lot sooner with no major losses for either driver.
I have noticed on the A75 from Stranraer that lorries do not need to be restricted and they can do whatever speed they like0 -

That must be a nightmare, an empty 18 tonner could pass a fully laden 44 tonner in about 3 seconds on a steep incline.
It's alright limiting LGV's to lane 1, but you often overtake cars, not just lorries. A car getting overtaken by a lorry on the motorway should see the car drivers licensed revoked.0 -

speed limiters next for cars that would cause the same as well all doing 70mph in middle lane with 1 doing 71mph in outside lane and all the lorrys as u say doing say 50mph nose to tail in inside lane.. that would be fun for anyone getting on or off motorways..... or we can do like in parts of europe ban lorrys at certain times of weekend(except daytime rush hours in uk) that wont make your shopping or fuel go up would it?? bet it would0

Lorry speed limits are going up soon as they were set in the 60's and cause nothing but trouble.
I hope not, the number of HGV drivers caught by CMPG watching DVDs while driving, using a mobile phone, tampering with their tacho or simply being blind drunk was shocking.
It's a shame as the majority I'm sure are law abiding, yet those of us who use the motorway network regularly know that the majority of fatals involve an HGV...0
