Disconnection charge-EE

I have changed broadband and home telephone provider from EE to BT. EE wrote to me confirming this and informing me of my final bill amount.
My service with EE ceased on 18th November, but my account is still active and they are still withdrawing payments from the direct debit mandate (x1).
There was no mention of a MAC code from either ISP.
I emailed them the above info to get the following response;
"Thanks for your recent email requesting cancellation of your account. Please be aware, should you cancel your account without the use of a MAC code, in accordance with our Terms of Use a £29.69 disconnection fee will be applied to your account upon closure"
Having read some of the other threads I feel like challenging this charge as I am well out of my contract period.
Whats the advice peeps?

It's a standard Openreach charge across all providers if you don't use a MAC to migrate.
Of all the threads I've seen on here about this (just search 'cease charge'), I've never seen anyone say they have successfully challenged it. I would be interested to see where people have been successful in doing so.0 -
Since it is stipulated at the start, it is hardly unfair - and just because the consumer didn't read the terms doesn't make it go away. As for 'bring out of your contract period'. Er, no.
Your contract runs until you cease your service. All you are 'out' of is your minimum service period so there is no penalty for an early termination, just the cessation charge you signed up to at the start.
Alternatively, find a new provider that WILL use a MAC and there's no problem.0
