Looks like every receipt I have ever seen...

Think your maths needs a bit of work Cornucopia :D
Yes - I hang my head in shame. :o

In my defence, a normal UK receipt doesn't look like that. The subtotal would always be the total paid for goods - before vouchers etc.

In my defence #2, I can't believe I paid £12 for a burger, fries and a drink in a place that runs much like McD or BK.
Definitely want to try one of these burgers though. Heard great things!
It was nice, but very similar to BK, and BK is much better VFM.

The receipt does looks a bit odd in so much as it does say "Subtotal", not "Net". I'd expect "Subtotal" to be the total of the things above it, which actually equals £12.

I guess what is important though is that the actual gross amount = the menu price, and if you were a business trying to reclaim VAT the VAT breakdown is accurate and the VAT number shown.

You should complain about your taste buds if you think this crap is good. They might have been good once but now are little better than a slow McDonalds.

I think the problem is that the price on the menu boards was not £12.

The OP thought they were paying the menu price but paid £12 as vat was added on later.

Nope, £6.75, £2.75 and £2.50 are the prices on the menu.

Amazing burgers, and a phenomenal range of soft drinks though!!!

Hmm I want a Five Guys now! I agree it's a lot of money for burger and fries, but the portion sizes are a fair bit larger and the range of soft drinks is amazing, plus it's unlimited refills. Burger King is only a few quid cheaper and much more bland!

To close this off, I was contacted by the Manager.

He sent me a standard email that describes their approach to VAT in detail. Which is fine, but does tend to suggest they get a lot of complaints about it.

I told him that that was because of the odd layout of their receipt. Let's hope they fix it now.

    Only thing... no vouchers. :(

I would need about a 30% discount to go back there.

Does suggest they used their US EPOS system with minimal effort to adjust for UK market if they have a template email to explain their counterintuitive system!

I'm confused as to why you think they should send you vouchers?

Companies often send vouchers when you contact them.

And because its so expensive it's probably the only way I'd go back there. It's a weird place - not fancy enough for a special occasion, too expensive for every day.
