Take a pregnancy test on 6 January if your period hasn't shown up by then. You will have a reasonably good chance of getting a reliable result if you can wait for another week.

The spotting on Christmas Eve could have been because you were ovulating, which would mean your one night stand was very badly timed if you didn't want to conceive, but it would be unusual to be experiencing any pregnancy symptoms so early if you had conceived, as you would just be at the implantation stage round about now, so your body wouldn't ordinarily be producing the hormones which cause sickness and tiredness quite yet.

If one night stands are a reasonably regular thing with you and you find yourself between contraception, maybe think about taking the morning after pill next time?

Pregnancy symptoms don't start until after implantation. Implantation does not take place before day 6, so whether this one night stand results in a pregnancy or not is not something you can know at this stage.

Well the first thing that comes to mind is that IF you are pregnant, who is the biological father? Your partner or your one night stand, it could be either. But you know that.

And as for the rest of the post, you are a teacher, a clever person, you don't need this forum to guide you do you?

I sincerely hope you're not pregnant. Partly because it (maybe irrationally) irritates me that people can sleep around and get pregnant at the drop of the hat but some people who actually try to get pregnant face so many issues that are beyond their control.

What a totally unnecessary comment. The way the OP chooses to conduct her private life would not have any affect on how well she does her job. Being a good teacher comes down to your knowledge, training and commitment to going above and beyond for your class and nothing else.

I'm thinking troll, but just in case you're not - I knew within 48 hours each time I was pregnant.

Get the test, and another for STIs.

Having gone through several cycles of IVF I know more than enough about the mechanics. With a 2 day transfer I had to wait 16 days to test. So test 15/16 days after the day in question, first thing in the morning with a couple of digital tests rather than the cheap ones as you can get false negatives, but very rarely a false positive. If it is negative then test daily for a couple more days.

I hope for your sake that it is a negative result but, more importantly, that you don't mess with your contraception again until you, and your partner, are 100% sure that you want a child and that your relationship is fully committed and exclusive. It's what a child deserves.

Well, of course it's POSSIBLE but without knowing when you ovulated, it's impossible for anyone to give you a more definitive response. However, pregnancy symptoms generally do not appear this early on.

Most pregnancy tests would show an accurate result after 14 days of unprotected sex.
