Unfortunately he isn't going to get much of a gaming PC on that budget. What sort of games does he play?0 -
Half decent graphics card will eat that budget! You might be better off trying to upgrade old one with better components.0

not really..... AMD A8 or 10 CPU, GTX750Ti gfx card and suitable PSU can be got for under £400, and will play Shadow of Mordor and Planetfall on high res......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Why not just buy him an Xbox 360? You can get one on Amazon for £189 with free delivery and spend the rest on games or accessories for it.0

Having said that, I just tried putting together a great (for 1080P) gaming PC and couldn't manage it for less than £415. I was ******* by the ********** keyboard and mouse. I would go so far as to say £425 should be the minimum.
Of course, with an old ATX case lying around, that could be £25 saved..? Bam! £400!Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -

I recently built a PC for a friend for a little over 400 quid, howerver, keyboard, mouse, monitor and speakers were not included. As others have mentioned, you won't set the world on fire with 400 quid but if you can source the peripherals seperatly and can either build yourself or find someone who can, then this is a reasonable start.

pretty good, and could shave off £20-30 by shopping around for PSU and RAM - I got similar PSU from ebuyer for just over £30, for example
Do you have Win7 license to install on it? If not, you need to budget for it.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
