Saving for Christmas 2015.

  • I'm so glad this place exists and i've finally been brave enough to start posting. I feel normal here. Everyone usually looks at me weirdly when i say i've started putting things away in the Christmas cupboard for next year.

Even though i already have over 40 packs/boxes of cards, i got a few more today..10p a pack. Can't say no. Also got my "Mum", "Dad" and other family cards and confused the lady at the counter by buying 6 "husband" cards. Tried to explain they are for future years and not 6 husbands. Didn't help. Sadly all the "to both of you" cards had already been taken :(

The Boots sale, Superdrug and a few others have lead to a huge pile of cheap beauty sets that will either cover work friends birthdays or go towards Christmas. And my niece and nephew have a few presents from the amazon sale.

Feeling quite good. Now the post Christmas for next Christmas spending is done i can start putting a bit of money aside a week and hopefully stick to doing it all year.

    Xmas Saver!

I use an envelope system. I have written next years list and everyone has a budget.
I know that one of ds' gift is a years subscription for his Playstation and dd gets the same amount in cash.
So I put £10 a week in an envelope. When I have the correct amount to buy the gift I seal it and move onto the next envelope.
Once I have done my 2 and my grandson I start everyone else. On top of people/gift envelopes I also have them for food, household items, Jan sales and a trip to a fayre we take every year.

    Thanks.
Managed to get a few tiny last bits today for niece and nephew. Kid's clothes were on sale at tesco and Asda. So got a coat and a few jumpers. I always have to remember to buy a year older than they are now. And that IS me done now and on to saving. I got one of those money boxes that you have to open with a tin-opener. Not tried that approach before, so we'll see. I keep thinking about supermarket savings stamps, but haven't gone for them yet.

    Morning All :)

Glad to see that others are already thinking about Christmas 2015 and that its not just me!

I already have loads of cards, gift wrap, ribbons and gift tags, so its just the actual present buying that I need to save for.

Plus, I have my older sons birthday on 12th Jan, and my younger sons birthday in April.

I aim to save about £1000 before Christmas and won't access it until at least November 1st. That includes gifts, decorations, food etc.

I'll also be buying some gifts during sales throughout the year though so out of my £1000 I should have some money left over for the sales following Christmas.

I have plenty of wrapping paper left over from last January's bargains but I will stock up on charity shop reduced cards in a week or so as they reduce them right down. I spend and give in charity shops all the time so don't feel too guilty at getting their reduced cards.

I am also saving (£2 a day but putting it in monthly in advance so have £120 so far) and, at the end of the month will continue to do that but also to save £50pm that I always have done plus the money I am saving by going SIM only on my phone for a while. It should all add up by next year. We are undecided whether to do something a bit different next year, e.g. go away for Christmas, so I am not going to collect endless toys for my grandchildren instead, buying nearer the time. Putting everything back in the loft tomorrow after my three grandchildren have gone home as I have them for the day. This time next year (next week possibly.....) there will be a fourth grandchild to buy for.

I too have started my Xmas shopping for this year. Dh thinks I'm bonkers but when you have 5 kids (2 of my own 3 step children) it most definitely pays to start early. I usually get all the little bits this time of yr and save up till closer to the time to get their main presents - mainly because they change their mind as often as their socks ha. We also have 2 kids birthdays one Nov and one Dec and 3 before the end of march so I like to be organised

Started my saving stamps for Tesco today. Just have to put them in a safe place till next week as I forgot to lift the cards to stick them on

Haven't been impressed with the Christmas Cards in the sales this year TBH, so don't think I'll be buying them this year. Same with the Wrapping paper. Looks like I'll be buying it next year at full price lol.

Got some Jack Wills sets to put away for next Christmas from the 50% sale in Boots. Nephews should be happy with those lol

I had lovely cards from The Works website - not as much as you save in the shops I suppose but I am stuck at home and £1 each for 10 super cards I found pleasing - plus free delivery on a £10 order. Also nice jigsaw for £1.50.

Still got loads of paper form Studio website. They often have very good sales but postage is £5.
