You are right, it's 24 months max. I remember it was 24 even if the manufacturer's one was 12 (excluding iPhones).
The confusion was a result of what Vodafone reps often post here:

Yet another proof of how worthless their over-a-phone promises are.

    No worries.

I know a couple of people who work for Vodafone so I'll ask them for a definitive answer in case there are exceptions. e.g OP's case.

Yeah would be interesting to know.. Ill try and get clarification too in writing..
regardless, a 24 month warranty is always a bonus. I find after 18 months most phones develop some kind of fault.

Manufacturer's 24-months' warranty is rather a norm than a bonus. Yes, it's a bonus if you prefer to deal with the supplier.

Moto G is a little worse than Z3 Compact in terms of specifications, but is just ~£130 at Argos. In April switch to, say, Lycamobile where 500+Unltd+1Gb will cost you £10 without any contract, i.e. with the phone ~£15 p.m. in terms of a 24-months' contract.

Or just buy a spare phone until April: Vodafone Smart Mini 4. Android 4.2 £35.00 @ Amazon

    Try 'much worse'.

    Is it a rhetoric comment?
Define 'much' and 'a little' then.
I did post the link that clearly shows all the differences.

One is a budget device with middling specs; the other isn't.

    Nice definition ...
IMO, "much" can be used only for the camera resolution if it really is of any importance to the OP.

Not the waterproofing, processor, RAM, build quality? I own a Moto G, too, and it's slow and pretty ugly. Possibly a good budget purchase, but not a great device.

Well I have to agree on waterproof (genuinely). Indeed, this is an outstanding feature.
  • So they let you upgrade 4 months early ? Warrantee is generally completely unrelated to the contract so get it in writing as it's not Vodafone who do warrantee work they generally charge the phone provider for any work / send it to them
