I've just opened a Newcastle BS account. When I try to log in it asks me for a user ID. I set up a password, memorable date, memorable name and memorable place. I don't remember setting up a user ID!
Is this something that they send to you by post?

i would assume so..
is it an account designed to be accessed online? i am a member of Newcastle Building Society, but am very happy to have an old-fashioned passbook account...
their Easy Access accounts pay a max of 1%G, so if you want an online account to hold significant funds i think i would be looking elsewhere.0 -

Just phoned them and they confirmed that this will be sent by post, with my Welcome Pack.
The account I opened actually pays 2.55% gross provided it is funded every month (min £1, man £1250) and no withdrawals are paid. It pays 1.55% gross if those conditions aren't met.
They offer the same deal for an ISA but I've funded an ISA this year and don't expect to pay tax this year, unless there's a dramatic change in my fortunes in the next 3 months!
It's the Big Home Saver but you don't actually have to take out a mortgage with them, unless I've missed something!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
oh, i see. it's a Regular Saver. in that case, you could be getting more like 4% elsewhere..
but, glad you have solved it, and your pack is on the way to you.:)0 -

I'm getting 6% on my First Direct regular saver, 3% on my Santander 123 and 5% on my TSB current account.
Where can I get 4%? Does it involve opening another current account?
I'm on a very low income at the moment (only working 15 hours a week and very high travel costs). I'm trying to subsidise it with interest on my redundancy payment. It's hard work trying to get a halfway decent rate of interest so I've got a lot of accounts!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

6% at HSBC, max £250 a month. Pre-reqs Advance account
4% at Lloyds, max £400 a month. Pre-reqs Club Lloyds account which also can pay 4%.0 -

I doubt if I would get accepted for any more current accounts (I've got 4!) Also won't be able to fund regular savings indefinitely, as my redundancy is whittled away by day to day expenses.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
I have a big home saver- newcastlebs service is v good.
Slightly lower rate but as I am a higher tax payer I save taxes + have other regular savers too lolMy Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.
48.78% towards 2015 target.
105.3% towards 2014 target. :j0 -
you can definitely have more than 4 current accounts. im up to 13 shortly...

Archi has replied with a couple of good ones..

You only need to fund most Regular Savers for a year, then the money is dumped into a low interest easy access saver, from where you move it to the best holding account (currently a current account), and start again.
Four isn't a lot of current accounts, and a low income isn't itself a bar to getting more (fortunately).Eco Miser
