Chambery delay 27 dec 2014

Options
My son & his wife left resort at 7am on Sat morning on coach with 39 other passengers. They spent the next 18 hours on the coach because they didn't reach airport intime for original flight. Crystal ski then decided to fly them from Lyon. they reached Lyon but there was no room on that flight. The coach then drove them back to Chambery and there were no hotels available in Chambery so they were put in a school hall. (there had been hotels available in Lyon though)
It was now well into the night.

They spent Sunday in the school hall being given mixed information until they were taken back to Lyon for a flight to Manchester last night.

The flight to manchester I beleive was an emergency extra one & landed more than 3 hours late.

Do you think they will be entitled to any compensation from crystal ski (part of TUI group)

The original flight they were booked on took off and flew as planned. It was the journey to airport that started this nightmare.
The emergency flight was delayed.

Thanks. I've been reading and searching internet but have only ended up more confused.

  • My belief is no,the "original"flight left on time so no go there.
What you have determined as the "emergency" flight is surely just that and no schedule is applicable to it when it's sole purpose us to get people home,so I don't think that will be a applicable delay to this flight either.
  • Do you think therevwould be any point in trying to make a claim against Crystal ski for not getting them to the airport for original flight or for delay in getting them home. shelter was provided by the red Cross not crystal Ski.
All in all, i'm happy that they are finally home safely but Crystal ski were a total failure in all areas. No food, no water, Shelter for the night only thanks to Red Cross. My son says he felt so sorry for the families travelling with babies & small kids who were suffering through all this.
  • As always, you can try but with the headlines regarding huge snowfalls in the alps, I have no idea if the circumstances would have been avoidable or other plans would have worked, have a go but others may have more of a clue.

Not sure, But I think you are entitle to compensation for the second flight which was delayed for three hours. have you asked for compensation to the airlines?

Alas, I don't think you have a claim against the airline under reg 261/2004, its not their responsibility to ensure passengers arrive for departure on time.
Crystal and their customers appear to have a had a tough time over the weekend. Whilst the snow dump was predicted and known about this time last week, some companies (and indeed their traveling clients to some extent) appear to been unable or unwilling to make provision for the problems. French services haven't been brilliant but I guess thats the time of the year too.
Really with heavy snow falling when you leave a resort would you not think to pack food and drink for journey?

  • Sir JP, He is not asking compensation for which he was late. He is asking compensation for the 3 hours delayed flight. Can't he claim compensation for the delayed flight?

I doubt it, from what I hear this was probably an unscheduled flight arranged by Crystal and may have had to wait until other passengers arrived after being stranded elsewhere in the Savoie region.

I agree with JP: there is unlikely to be any claim here, given the nature of the second flight (and the meteorological origins of the delay).

Chinastarr: if you have any further questions, please post them on the flybe thread rather than starting your own one, which only clutters the forum.

also agree. If this had been a flight only booking rather than a package, when the OP missed their scheduled flight they would have been left with no flight, no compensation and having to purchase a new flight on another airline at their own expense (potentially recovering this from travel insurance) I assume the emergency flight was put on to help the package customers

JP, if we forget this person and talk about original flyer of 3 hours delayed flight, I am sure they are eligible for the compensation.

So, My Question is, why can't airlines treat the late coming person and his wife as original passenger of that flight.
