I've finished the crocheted beanie hat and DS1 is very happy. I took a photo, but can't work out how to get it in a post.£1000 Emergency Fund #175 - £598/£1000

Just wanted to add, I've read that you should put a small bowl of water in the microwave at the same time, otherwise the bag could catch fire after a few times because the rice gets so dryIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

Effy, I upload mine to photobucket and then copy and paste the bottom link they put beside the photo straight into my post.
Had another NSD today. Didn't venture out into the snow and DH was working all day until late anyway.

Decided to start a bit of knitting late yesterday evening, wanting to replace the cream aran handknit hot water bottle cover I'd made and which had got splattered in the kitchen (don't ask). It wouldn't come clean and looked seedy.
Rummaged in my pulled out yarns, found a nice green which was formerly one of my brother's jumpers. Was a double-knit acrylic, well worn, but I combined three strands together and am knitting on old size sevens and it's coming up as if a chunky/ aran, and looking lovely and not worn at all.
Something out of nothing, and no money spent but mucho satisfaction.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I made the draught excluder last night so its now keeping the flat cosy. Not quite sure what to use the other leg of the leggings for but I'm sure I'll think of something.
Was wondering if anyone has any tips for relining a jacket. I have a beautiful tweed jacket but the lining is very discoloured and ripped. I have the material but no clue where to start.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86

Hi misstara, it's entirely possible but a fair bit of work. Essesntially, you need to carefully unpick the lining from the jacket, unpick each section of lining from the other sections, iron them flat and use them as a template to make a new section, then reverse the process and put the new lining back in.
It's middling-hard sewing, and you need to be careful of seam allowances, as these may have been cut back after the pieces were assembled, so you need to be able to guess if there was originally more cloth and compensate.
If you're not confident at sewing (I'd think twice about this myself) you may want to outsource this project. HTH.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks GreyQueen, I'm not very good at sewing so this sounds way beyond my capabilities. I will look into outsourcing it as I don't want to ruin my jacket by attempting it myself.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86

Here's a couple of suggestions for using the 'other leg' from a pair of trousers. I've made all of these fairly successfully and I'm a novice self-taught (you tube is brill) sewer :
1) tube bag for holding plastic bags (elastic round top and bottom of leg then sew a piece of ribbon to leg to hang it)
2) wrapping paper tube bag. A leg is a great size to turn into a tall bag to hold your gift wrap rolls etc
3) yoga mat bag - join bottom (ankle end) of leg so you have a long tube bag. Make top end (thigh bit) into a drawstring fastening. Sew on a shoulder strap
Hope this helps
I've been lurking on this great post for a while.
I started sewing precisely to make do and mend and to upcycle and recycle and I'm loving it. I'll share some other sewing ideas soonMS Stalwart. Used site for >10 years :jMake Do, Mend and Minimise member - focussing on upcycling/repurposing and sewing0
