  • I too am slightly vertically challenged and get so cross when things are out of reach in shops (usually basic things )the expensive stuff is always at eye reach .I have over the years shrunk to a bout 5'3" which isn't too bad I suppose but I was once a lanky 5'6".Apparently you shrink as you get older .My late OH when he was in hospital before going in had his height and weight measured and he was measured at 5'11" I protested and said that can't be right he was 6'2" when he was in the RAF and the nurse said 'don't worry dear we all get smaller as we age !! At this rate I shall be 'minimising' myself !!! so I guess I shall have to 'make do' and 'mend' my ways :):):)

Still de-cluttering, and have a big bag to take to the chazzer today. Mainly odds and ends from my cutlery drawer and some china plates that haven't been used for years.
Looking around over the weekend I have just seen so many things that can go as I really don't need or use them anymore

What kind of holiday is it? Beach. skiing, city trip? What type of climate?

I would wear my heaviest coat or jacket and shoes or boots on plane. Pack a spare pair of shoes, undies, tights etc.

Three pairs trousers or skirts .

Five tops to mix and match.

Smart dress if going somewhere dressy.

If the hotel has a dry cleaning service or laundry then you can get your clothes freshened.

Thank you elona for you kind help x

It's Malta so the weather is on average 16-18° that time of year.
I'm thinking of items on the minimalist front and maybe things that I can mix and match.
I do a lot of walking there, so will wear trainers most of the time.
It's not a 'dressy up' hotel so luckily I don't have to go mad with different outfits for every evening!
It's a very frugal holiday hence the minimal baggage :)

I was in tesco this morning with my daughter and it was so busy, loads of people with huge trolleys piled right up and very stressed looking you would think the shops are going to be shut for weeks not 1 day. I'm so glad I'm not even tempted to shop like that, I did my baking yesterday and froze what wasn't given in hampers to take out as we need it, I've got my veg and pick up the Christmas meat on Wednesday from the butcher and that's me organised....I think:rotfl:
I did get to hear the Salvation Army playing at tesco today :) I love it and don't feel like it's Christmas until I have heard them playing, my DGD was dancing in the trolley so happy faces alround.

Know what you mean lollyfin. We went to the MetroCentre this morning and left just as it was getting manic! Decided to do a small food shop tonight very late to miss the worst of the crowds.

MrsCD.....I've stayed at the hotel before, last November actually, and have great toiletries provided but I would have to take toothpaste and a bit of make-up.

As I'm challenging myself to a fiscal fast for 6 months, buying anything there is not an option

:) I've travelled for up to 6 weeks at a time with under 10 kg, it's do-able, but accept that you are going to be doing laundry. If nothing else, take a tube of travel wash (cheap in the supermarket, expensive in the travel shops).

You can get by perfectly happily with 3 tops and 3 bottoms, all of which should be able to be combined any which way. One outfit on you, two in the bag. Swimming cossie, basic toiletries, couple of scarves to ring the changes. You'll need a warm layer at that temp range - lightweight cardi/ light jacket? A camisole takes up hardly any weight alllowance, and can be used to layer on cooler days. One pair of all-purpose comfy shoes on your feet, a second pair of footwear to give your feet a rest. A pair of fancy flip-flops don't weigh much and can be poolside, beach, slipper substitutes, going out in non-fancy places.

Or stick an artificial flowerhead on a regular pair of flip-flops. One hardcore traveller I knew had a few fake flowers, just the heads, rigged to attach to flip-flops, her bag, her hair barette.

Try playing around with the clothes you already have before you go, trying everything on and making sure it all fits. Allow for a bit of extra girth from holiday feasting. Your footwear is the most critical item, it'll make you miserable if your feet are sore.

Hope you have a lovely time!
