Bath foam, shampoo, shower cream, handwash, washing up liquid - it's all soap under different names! Some of it may be kinder on your hair if used long term, but they will all clean your hair ok.
I am another one trying to grow out hair colour, my intention is to wait till it is mostly silver then maybe put a few blue and purple streaks in, just for the sheer hell of it!

    :) Go, girl!

My naturally auburn hair is about 50% silver in places, much darker in others. I'm looking forward to it being pure white all over, the words running through my head being blank canvas.:p

Hell, when I was young and daft, I had it turquoise, shocking pink and custard yellow with black bolts through it (not all at the same time, I hasten to add, that would just be a bit icky even on a 20 y.o.)

I decided a couple of months ago to stop covering my grey when I saw a feature in a newspaper about a woman in her late forties I think who let the grey take over, and she looked fabulous, even younger than when she dyed her hair. Think of the female version of silver fox (silver vixen?)
My hair is still about 60% blonde, but it is fading so the grey bits don't look too bad!

I wonder why we get hooked on hair dyeing in the first place? I don't count the blue and purple streaks bit, that is just my token act of rebellion.

Fingers and everything else crossed for you Nursemaggie. The volunteering is one to one at our local centre which is just round the corner from me & I start next week!
I used to work for an appliances manufacturer many years ago and could take my washing to be done free of charge to test the machines. One of the boffins told me that washing up liquid, shampoos, hand cleansers are all degreasers in various strengths with perfume added accordingly - in the past I must admit I've resorted to diluted washing liquid to wash my hair with no adverse affects!

We often did not have shampoo when I was young and we used washing up liquid. Lemon juice and beer for conditioning.

  • Good morning

We took Himself's chair to the Hospice shop yesterday. We went a little early so we could park near to the shop because the chair is quite heavy.

The Manager saw us so I asked if we could leave it and she told us they had been broken into during the night, evidently the second time in 6 months. Can you imagine what toe rags would do this.

Thankfully they only got away with the float, they stole a safe but there wasn't anything in it, so they will have a shock when they are able to open it.

Would it be too much to hope for, that if they or a relative needed Hospice care, they might reflect on what they had done, probably.

    Morning All.
Candlelight - there are some real toerags about with no moral compass. Maybe when they find the safe empty they might think about what they've done but probably not.
Busy weekend for us, all the boats are being lifted out of the water today (40+) & as DH was a Crane engineer he's on stropping duty (no not that sort!) to make sure none get dropped. I'm on the safety team to make sure all the areas are kept clear so no one is in the way of boats being towed around! It's a tiring day but a good crowd and everyone mucks in AND there's copius amounts of tea, coffee & bacon rolls to keep everyone going. Just hope it stays dry. Managed to get 10lb of Quices peeled, cored and cooked ready for the freezer yesterday.
Must shift myself & get booted & spurred cos its cold out here
Have a good day all x

Candlelight When I ran a charity shop we used to empty the till and leave a notice to say no cash was kept on the premises. I used to take the float home we had been broken into so many times.

Nargleblast and anyone else pondering whether it is worth stopping dying your hair to cover grey: it IS! I cannot imagine ever returning to the slavery of having to cover my roots every 3-4 weeks (if you have dark dyes it shows that quick on grey!). And to save money I used to go as a model and had to deal with unreliable teenage trainees and primadonna hairdressing teachers. The alternative would have been spending a fortune, which I was not willing to do.

Now I am very grey at the front and still very dark at the back of my head (natural colour), invest in a very good cut every 3 or 4 month, no trainees for this, but a trusted, friendly and very competent local hairdresser, and I have received countless compliments. DH definitely prefer me natural grey than dyed!

Give it a go, it is such a feeling of liberation.

I have also stopped waxing my armpits, legs and (sorry if TMI but it is such a great feeling) my bikini line. No more agony, yippee! Spent 2 weeks on a Spanish beach as well at the swimming pool at the campsite where we stayed, all hairy and happy, and nobody batted an eyelid.

The last frontier is plucking my chin hair, legacy of the menopause. I confess that I am still doing it, regularly, I just cannot face having a beard. I have reached the limit of my comfort zone in natural looks!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

nursemaggie good luck with house hunting. Fingers crossed you find something suitable.

candlelight can't believe people break into charity shops, karma will get them.

viv hope the reunion went well.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I've just finished a short shift for 2nd job. OH is making a pot of soup for lunch and the leftovers will do for lunches during the week. I made bread yesterday so just need to go to the supermarket later to get some things in for tea tonight and the evenings I'm in through the week. Better pop to the shop before the Scotland game starts.

Plan for the rest of the day, other than watching rugby, is to dig out the sewing machine as a few buttons on my winter coat are loose and I want to repair them before they fall off, get the washing and ironing done, make a couple more cards and start sorting through my clothes. Since going gf, I've lost almost a stone and a half so a lot of my clothes are hanging off me. Need to sort through, see what I need to replace and take the old ones to the charity shop.
