Hi Chums I was going to Aldeees and L%dles today but woke up and it is raining so I have put that off for another day.I have enough in store for today and no real urgent stuff to but.DD gave me two coats yesterday in need of sewing The dog chewed a chunk out of the arm of one (as its her dog walking coat I shall patch it) and the other one the seam has parted company by the pocket So both coats will be washed and repaired today. I also have to ring the stair-lift people as my chair is in need of a service, in fact overdue and won't swivel when it gets to the top of the stairs.Looking quite autumnal outside and I have a bag of carrots I was given yesterday so they will get recycled into carrot and coriander soup this morning. I have a small list of to-do jobs this morning which I am going to work through I think
    Have a good day everyone

    Hi all
I read this thread regularly but don't get a lot of time to post.
Today I am mending, DGD7 has 3 teddies that have developed holes and she & DGD4 both have onesies that they love, but the zips have gone, I'll probably order the zips online as they are very long.
I managed to get a pair of Disney Stompers in the CS today, so all the DGD's can share them when they visit, we have one DGC every weekend.
I have just tidied the fridge so I will make some spicy veg soup later with all the veg oddments for my lunch.
    Hugs Hester

    Hi Hester

I know your joining date says 2013 but I'm sure you were on the threads I was reading back in 2006 when I joined. If so, welcome back - I too had a long sojourn while real life took over but am trying to get back into the OS ways as I hope to return to the UK in the not too distant future. Fingers crossed for a buyer who will pay enough for my 6 hectares so I can buy a tiny house in the UK :rotfl:

Hi also to everyone else on the thread too - still lurking and occasionally have time to post. Still trying to declutter so I don't have too much to transport back to the UK. I'm guessing I would need a full removal lorry plus one of their large trailers at the moment (if not more) and want to get down to a 7.5 ton or smaller load. And that's not counting the tractors and equipment that very definitely isn't on the list for shipping back :rotfl:

Today I have to try and sort and clean the house back to acceptable having just re-created a bedroom - because apparently buyers can't use their imagination -. I've been camped out in various rooms in the house for a few years after I turned the bedroom into a shop and never had the time or money to convert the loft area into the 3 bedrooms it could be.

Make do for today is to make a pork casserole with the peppers from the garden and a tomato/lime salsa I bottled last year.

Mend, well that will probably be a multitude of things as I move and sort stuff.

And Minimise, the hardest of all for me, hopefully a lot more clothes and paperwork along with anything else I can persuade myself that I really am not going to use in a month of Sundays :D

We've had a really chiiled relaxed OS feel of a weekend. Seems that subconsciously, as a family, we all like the turn of the Autumn.

Off we pootled for a walk around the grounds of the local NT place, loved the kitchen garden and Lyn I saw apple and pear growing along wires. It's in my minds eye now.

I finished my crochet cardi and wore that. I was very proud although I have to admit to feeling a little unsure of being eyed up by older ladies. :rotfl:

I am already on with my second cardi now and also an acrylic number for my youngest. I have found a pattern that makes a shrug out of a rectangle piece so my eldest DD has her acrylic (kids acrylic because they grow to quickly, where as mine are investments) picked out to try to make her own. Youngest has crochet sussed in that she's managing to accumulate stitches but not crochet as you would know it :rotfl: She'll get there.

Eldest is one minute into pink, fashion and crocheting while lapping up all scouts have to offer the next. Youngest is focused on gymnastics while adamant to finding the best conkers. Considering where her mam and dad came from, I can't help think 'go girls' very, very proud and it's because of the influence of this board and OS ideas that we've been able to change and give our kiddlers a grounding.

I have requested my allotment plot on the new site. I have gone for the biggest  but although I am guaranteed (I have had that in email) a plot I don't know if it will be the new one near me, or the one at the other end of the town. It should be a plot near me as they are supposed to be allocated due to where people live - there's not many houses between me and the one nearest so here's hoping. Plots won't be ready till spring though. It's all a long waiting game.
  • Hey ,

I'm fairly new to the forums , but did notice this thread a week or so ago and have been reading since. I love the whole make do and mend way. I am currently doing a weightloss challenge on here and also taking part in the Grocery Challenge.

My whole family are loving the new meals we are having, for instance today I made a large pot of lentil and veg soup and also a meatloaf , both made with left overs (I'm thrilled :) ) .

As for my make do and mending :) I won a lovely piece of fabric which I'm going to sew myself a new top with , I got it at a bargain price, Not doing that today though , today I had a clear out of the under stairs cupboard in which I found a small bag of wool , I think I must have bought it a good few years ago. Anyway I looked online and found a pattern for gloves which I'm in the middle of knitting , a pair for me , I might get a cowl out of the ball too. I also have enough to make DD a pair too :D. I may even be able to get a hair band or pretty scarf out of the material , it does have a check pattern on it though so may be a little more wastage :( , we'll see

I am currently trying to grow my own herbs in my kitchen , as it is a very dull kitchen I am using a blue spectrum bulb on my herbs as I do enjoy cooking and buying them fresh each time is expensive - would love to save up for one of the aero garden salad bars for the kitchen , then no more salad buys either :D

Making Do - I have 3 curtains that got attacked by kittens that I am going to take down iron and hem , Some green fabric (left over from making the curtains) that I want to cover 2 cushions with , I have 2 cardigans that have holes in shoulders that need repaired ummm think that is it for now :)

    Enjoy your evening everyone

Today is horrible weather-wise so I have attempted a new soup.

Pea soup (made with split peas £1 for 3kg from work, 1/2 a leftover onion and a garlic & herb stockpot that was a freebie from work).

Working on a new shawl from all the wee bits and bobs from the wool basket.

Sorry I have been awol! Have been busy trying to hackback garden shrubs, clean, tidy and minimise for house viewers.

the first two seem like lovely people and they were impressed by the amount of space in the house and the facilities locally (school, park, library, leisure center, train station all within walking distance) So am hopeful they will make a sensible offer - Tep!lo so far being very helpful. But will see how well paperwork side of things goes.

Have mended the back door by filling the 'sill' on it, sanding it all down and repainting it. I like painting and filling - but the rubbing down makes my arthritis in my hands hurt these days:(

Have 'made do' with another lightening raid on Morr!sons reaping a large bakery wholemeal loaf for 49p and 3 large red peppers for 69p - so those will be really handy!
Have, as always been cooking for myself from food in the house as well as a £10 Lid!l shop. A friend also gave me courgettes and fallen apples - CRUMBLE alert!!:A :) Love an apple crumble YUM YUM YUM!
But best for last folks - I think I told you that I put in a claim from Barc!ays for a mis-sold account - have got £1536 back!!!!! So worth doing!!! Interestingly I got a phone call from them where, while very polite they were obviously trying to see if I would change my story, I had the LONG form they sent ( and i had photo copied before sending back) in a file readily accessible - so as they questioned me I could read back to myself what I had written! It was true but I did not think i would get that much back!! As Martin :money: says you wont know till you try! :j Really shocked and pleased!

This sorts out a number of things for me but I am gonna keep to my frugal ways 1) out of habit 2) so I can build up a good emergency fund 3) because I dont believe in giving the big companies more than I have to.

Here's hoping that Vulpix is OK.

Welcome debbiedodge :) looking forward to sharing all your MM&M's.

Another bra bit the dust last night (that's 2 in two weeks!) but really want to put off buying new as I am losing weight and quite quickly. I have one good one and one 'it'll do' one left. I would like to get to November pay without investing just to get a better idea of where my weight will be really. If all else fails I will have to endure life in my sleep bras. Ok for me, not so ok for people having to look at me  :rotfl:

I have been head down in my allotment planning these last few days. Companion planting is fascinating to a novice. I have also written up a plan of action for January/February.

I will be buying eggs that come in a plastic container so I can use those containers as mini greenhouses to start off seedlings on the window sills.
  • Morning all,

The MMM has been pretty minimal lately--although that doesn't mean spending, just relying on the systems we have in place like meal planning, easy evening cooking and the like. The truth is both of us are exhausted and overwhelmed by work at the moment. OH has a school trip coming up in a couple of weeks that I know is going to really be tiring he is giving up the first week of his very much needed half-term break. I'm looking for any MMM ideas for our evenings to make life feel a little more cozy and luxurious. Just trying to put a bit back into our souls right now. I've been lighting tea lights in the lounge, and last night I made a quick crumble although OH had already filled up on a chocolate bar. Not sure what I'll try tonight.

Fuddle, I like to use empty fruit punnets--like the clear plastic ones strawberries and plums etc. come in for green house tops on larger plants--courgettes start out too big for the eggs. HTH.x

Freezer successfully defrosted last night so filled it up today (£22.85 ) but that will last the rest of the month.

Lunch today when Mr Zaxdog gets home will be Quorn burgers, salad and a new and yummy tattie salad recipe: mix chopped tinned tatties, finely chopped pickled onions, chopped fresh basil & yoghurt :j

Laundry all caught up and finally stack my log delivery.

On the MMM side I'll be scrounging more wool for my winter shawl and working on that with a daft movie this afternoon.
