Thanks for that Vhalla - we've just kept it as a curiosity as we're not aware of any battles in our area so it may have been used as practice as we are near to Lord Palmerston's forts along the back of Portsmouth that were built to protect the port from a landward invasion.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • Morning.
Lyn - is that a hidden Kryten reference? I used to love watching red dwarf.

I have been getting back to normal after losing Mimi, her sister Martha won't sit where they used to snuggle up together, but will cuddle me at night. I have really appreciated everyone's kindness.

I have been trying to do the accounts for Drama group ahead of our age this evening. I was sure I had filed the bank statements as they came in this year but can I find the folder when I need it - is there a gremlin hiding things in the house or is it me needing to do more minimising and have a space for all my paperwork for the various things I do.
I have made supper of home grown veg and lentils ready to be stuffed into the courgette that managed to hide from me and grew much larger than it should, so that is ready to go in for an early supper before an evening of drama.
Making do- my local (family owned) garden centre were giving away some end of season plants at their open evening earlier this weekend, and I chose carefully, so I now have a number of cuttings of dahlias, geraniums and pinks in trays in the greenhouse hopefully they will get through the winter and brighten up my garden.

Better do some proper paid work today, rather than pottering. At least I started early so I should be able to finish a bit earlier.

fuddle I went gluten and wheat free early last year and my colitis settled beautifully. I also lost a stone in weight as well. It doesn't kill me to have the odd bit of wheat flour cake or bread, but I suffer the next day and produce enough gas to fire up our central heating!

I have also cut down on dairy products, and am a little less "phlegmy" than before.

fuddle glad to hear changing your diet has helped so much. Since going gf 4 months ago, I feel better than I have done for about 8 years. In fact I'm annoyed at myself for not doing it sooner.

I am shocked at just how much more energy I have, clearer skin, no bloat and I am gaining a waist again. The scales say I have lost 6lbs in just under 3 weeks. I'm now not craving carbs or sugar. It's that bit that I cannot believe. So much healthier due to no bread or homebaking.
Fuddle any more info or a link to the diet??? Eat very little wheat as I know I am intolerant to it (have about 2 rolls per week) and that I try to make organic.
tomorrow is another day of MM&M planned - if it all works out I'll let you know!
    Sleep well folks

I am following The Primal Blueprint written by an American former athlete who has taken the stance of living and moving liking our ancestors. It's similar to Paleo but dairy is permitted. I know for sure I couldn't live without cheese or yoghurt but interestingly I am noticing some negative affects towards natural yoghurt.

His website is Marks Daily Apple http://www.marksdailyapple.com where there's a wealth of information in his blog posts. There's success stories from many a follower. For many it's about getting fit and healthy first and losing weight second. I've never stuck to any eating plan to lose weight but when I was poorly I decided enough was enough.

I am Salt..... can I add my sadness at the loss of Mimi - young or old they leave such an imprint on our lives.

Food luck with the Op Vulpix

Vhalla - every time you post a recipe, I cut and post into a note on my ipad... i could publish a book with your recipes. Was it your butternut squash and goats cheese one we had the other day?

Well i am really trying to MMM as I really want to clear my debt not add to it, as i seem to have done the last couple of months.

Make Do - mainly this is about eating out of the freezer, not eating out, not looking at clothes shopping. Asking that really useful question, Do I really need to buy this?

( Only kitten related purchases have been allowed. A litter box - where the cat gets in from the top) I hate litter trays and the mess and I hope this is going to be better).

Minimise - yesterday, i was determined to take my Mum's school childs chair and some records to see if i could get anything for them - no joy in the record shop (they were childrens - Wendy Craig and Stewpot! ) and the chair leg was splitting so no further joy in the parade of antique shops. So they have gone straight to the charity shop, along with several more bags and my boot is full again.

I am really enjoying the decluttering having been a hoarder for many years.... I started the challenge of getting rid of as many items as the day ie 9 for 9th Sept. Well I am up to the 14th March :rotfl:for me thats a great achievement. I am abit of an Anorak so I take a picture of each item and log on a spreadsheet. This also means I have memories of things I have given away... this weeks list includes a tiny tears bath and a large carriage silver cross pram ! The later is on eb@y, my Dad finally has emptied the loft and the contents belonging to me are in my garage to sort.

Mending - pair of trousers is on my sewing box

I don't post much but i avidly read... what has happened to cheerfulness?

    Thanks all for inspiring me

Or as my Mum would say, brush yourself down, tomorrow is another day or

  • Hi again,

Yes, that was my recipe, Bubblesmum; thrilled to know they seem to be going down well. I'll dig a few more out after the weekend, DB is coming tomorrow and I'm having a good blitz in the kitchen and pantry today - I've even sorted out all my spices/pickles/sauces/vinegars etc - my, what an exciting life!!

:) I have darned several socks, paid some bills online and made bread and made lotsa tea for my gas engineers. We have jointly decluttered some chocolate digestives. It's tough work but someone has to do it.

The engineer has taken my boiler cupboard door and is teasing me he won't put it back again before he leaves - SuperGran has his mobile number tho so there's no escape.

I have never darned GQ. Aside from some crocheted (and they are acrylic wool anyway!) I don't own a woollen pair of socks. I do know how to do it in theory though.

It wasn't on my job list for today but I have lopped off the bottoms of a pair of jeans that are too long. They will do while I am in between sizes.

Having ribs, coleslaw and roasted squash for tea although I am selling the roast squash as sweet potato chips to the children people. They really don't know the difference :D

:) These are just ordinary cotton-rich socks; I darn them with a doubled sewing thread which comes up at the right thickness. Love the idea of re-branding the squash for the children people; clever mam.;)

Tank replacement project coming towards competion (8 am start) and then I'll be about get my tank cupboard door put back; poor thing is outside getting splashed by raindrops bouncing - monsoon going on for about an hour. Be nice to have my front door shut as it's getting a bit nippy.

My tank is now up to temp and I have 125 litres of piping hot water so guess can no longer procrastinate about doing the dishes.:rotfl:

I've never darned either but in my decluttering I found some darning thread in that mushroom colour used to lisle stockings:eek: Inherited of course, but when was I ever going to use that and I don't even have the wooden mushroom that my gran used to use with it. Or if I have I haven't found it yet!:rotfl:
