You know - One of the BEST things about this thread? that even if you don't squeeze your purse until it squeeks, are only 'occasionally' MM&Ming, NOBODY makes you feel inadequate or letting the side down! everybody seems to have the attitude (to quote an ad), that 'every little helps'. it is such a change from some threads where you would be scared to admit to not searching out the best bargain, or spending one penny more than others think you should.
I think the thread founder and the stalwarts on here should give themselves a huge round of applause - I think they are wonderful people! and you know who you are!!!!!!!!!
I agree! Not everyone can pinch every penny, not everyone needs to and not everyone knows how and that's fine.
I do small DIY jobs, use vouchers everywhere and will scour charity shops when I have time but my flatmate can't do DIY and considers it a huge saving if she gets a discount voucher once in a while. My in-laws got a pleasant surprise when they shopped around for their home insurance for the first time in 20 years. Every victory is a victory, no matter how small it may be to others. :T“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Hi there
Hope you don't mind me joining you, I've only found this thread today & I'm now on page 15
I've just sewn a button back onto DH's shorts for him & realised how he has changed over the last 9 years. When I first met him he would have thrown his clothes away if a button came off
I've been brought up to make do & mend where possible. My mom was a stay at home mom & my dad was a factory worker often on short time so every penny counted.
I'm still learning & trying to teach DH when he will let me lol but realised that him asking me to sew a button on was a big change from when we first got together :T0 -
Sashanut - I bought a Mail in Lidlee & inside was their leaflet with a £5 off £40 too & valid to the 5th. Not publicised as far as I know?Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Evening everyone. Lovely to see what others are up to. Welcome hugs etc to all.
I agree with the balance, what works well for some doesn't for others, I indulge by having a cleaner to help. I hate housework, work full time, run my own business and look after my elderly mum. By having someone help, I can do those things, and enjoy life and relax at times, I learnt looking after myself means I can help others more.
I have been mending and minimising today, despite the heat.
Oh wanted to take our bikes to one of the bike stores in town as both had flat tyres, he thought they were punctured , but I suggested we had a look at them together. With a quick call to a friend up the road who kindly donated their spare adapter for the pump, we managed to check and pump the tyres up....amazingly they just needed air! I managed to throw some old papers in the recycling while looking for the pump too. That must have saved at least £30!
I have minimised a cheese to make tartiflette. Really not the thing to be eaten on a hot summer evening, but it was nice despite the cheese being a little (2months) out of date!
Off to check whether the fabric folding chairs have been eaten by mice, or whether they will be ok to use at the Leeds castle concert in a couple of weeks.
I have this week finally finished some sewing and crochet projects which have been hanging about for longer than I care to admit... So I now have a summer dress, a simple cotton top and a crochet scarf which I have been doing on the train home from work.£400,000 starting Jan 2020 current end date Aug 2041 I would love the end date to be 2027 but will aim first for 2037.

Quick post before I head to bed (rock and roll Saturday night
). Me and OH went for a wander round the international market, lots of lovely things but kept the purse closed. As predicted it was quite expensive.
We've made a meal plan for next week and a list ready for going shopping on Monday morning. Tea tonight was a slightly random assortment of things out the fridge but very yummy anyway.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86
Mortgage overpayment savings - £3.33/£50
Mortgage overpayments so far - £675.980 -

Yes thankyou Silvasava - you are right - we get that paper on a Sat & found the voucher paper in there too when we got home.....I agree, not publicised anywhere as far as I know either. Normally we get a heads up on this one; it can come in very useful if you need to spend that much. I normally stock up when these vouchers are around..New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Shame about the voucher, I did my shopping there yesterday. I could have stocked up on a few things. No matter, maybe next time!0

Coming out of lurkdom again to say Thank You to whoever posted the 'Non-Alcoholic Pimms recipe'. It was a very hot day here yesterday and I made a jug full and drank it all myself throughout the day! It was sensational. Please forgive me for not remembering who posted it. Came to this thread as a latecomer and am still catching up, gradually, - on page 138 just now. I can't skim read as there is just too much interesting stuff, so try and do 2-3 pages each morning. Thank you everyone for the friendliness, fun and fantastic recipes and information. Shirley x0
