  • My Aunt and Uncle actually lived at St Margarets Bay and I spent many very happy holidays there as a child, sadly my Uncle died very young and the holidays weren't part of life after that as my Aunt and cousins moved into Dover to make life easier for them as my Aunt didn't drive. It's a lovely place isn't it?

Indeed it is, my late brother John's ashes were scattered there in 2001 when he died and the funeral director drove from Didcot in Oxfordshire to do it for us.He loved the view of the sea and said it was where he felt most at peace, his widow still goes there when she feels stressed.Apart from a very reasonable small tea room and loos and a pub there is nothing but the sea and a distanct view of france but the towering white cliffs behind you are quite something to look at.Very twisty road to drive down there though, and you have to go quite slowly :)
Well today is a feet up and relaxing day for me My bag is packed and all the little jobs are done and up to date.I even have sorted out some small change for when I am in hospital for a morning news paper.I am quite organised at time :):):) I may just finish off one of my Linus project blankies this morning It just need some sewing up to do.Almost all the fresh food is used up in the fridge so it will be something from the freezer tonight for dinner I think.but fingers crossed I will soon be back online again
Cheers everyone and thanks for all your good wishes

Not had time to post for a while but have just caught up with reading the thread.. I am on call at the moment as DD2 is due to give birth to my 2nd granddaughter - now overdue by a week. I will have my older granddaughter whilst mam is in hospital for the birth. I'm jumping with excitement each time the phone rings now! Charlies-Aunt I too love cotton sheets on my bed. Over the past few years I have replaced all of my cheap poly cotton sheets with vintage sheets bought cheaply from charity shops. I have quite a few single sheets that never see the light of day as I only have one single bed and it's a spare which only gets used once in a blue moon. Until I read Charlies - Aunt's post I never even thought of sewing 2 singles together to make a larger sheet - that's something going on my to do list. (After little one is born now!!!)

    Hi all :j

Just popping in also to wish JackieO all the best for her op & recovery, will miss her contributions to the thread....I have been AWOL for a little while due to stupidly scalding my arm whilst carrying a tray with a teapot on it, my friend arrived early & I was rushing to make the tea, couldn't put the large tray down immediately as it was full, therefore the boiling water had time to soak into my sleeve & by the time I got cold water on it, quite badly blistered, what an idiot!! Never mind will be more careful in future!! :rotfl:

All is quiet this morning in the Nut household as DH has a meeting from early & DD safely in work. As someone is normally here all the time, it's quite nice to have some time for myself....have been in the garden for 2 hours already, and have been MMMing there. I was bought a set of 3 metal obelisks but they have seen better days, were dark green & pretty rusty TBH. Had a brain wave & found some spay cans of Plasticote that I bought yonks ago in BnQ for £1 each. Have sprayed one in metallic blue & it looks great......can recommend this method for unifying your colour scheme for pots etc, anything really. however, it's very messy (at least I am) so do it in an area where it's not windy & there is nothing else that will get spoilt if it also gets sprayed :rotfl:

In other news have ventured into a) the room of doom & b) the double garage of double doom......have found no more ice cream makers in the former but have located 2 new steam irons (I have a steam generator). In the latter there are loads of wonderful things I am sure, if only I can find them amongst the kibble. Well I found the spray paint, that was great! And all the rest of it is now in one place.

Now I'm going to the kitchen to try & MMM a chicken carcass = chicken noodle soup & innards of a chicken/mushroom pie if there's enough...plus grotty bits for the dogs (not bones obv). Have to do it soon as it's a fast day & don't want to be hungry doing it. Have fun whatever you're doing....weather pretty good here with the odd bit of rain ...normal for here

Hope to see you back posting soon JackieO I've been watching you post for years but only really have our paths crossed on this thread. Here's to a relaxing recovery.

Chicken and mushroom pie. Now there's a pie I have never made and one that will be made come the weekend when it's rubber chicken time.

The girls and I were up early and have dug over a good section of the first patch. We'll be back later with DH to put peas in.

We brought home all the CD's to clean and make into bird scarers.

I finished my crocheted phone holder last night. It works well, does the job beautifully but needs prettying with a few crochet flowers and buttons. ;)

The girls are looking through a book that has very kindly been gifted. It is how to make character sandwiches. They will decide what to do together and then we'll go buy the ingredients later. I was going to 'tadah look what mam has made you' but I think they will have more fun (and eat more!) if they do it themselves.

It's a good washing drying day so will get a wash on... after I have supped my tea, of course. Have a good day :)

Best wishes jackieO for the op.Hope to have you back soon.xx

We bought a house yesterday!!!!!!!!,in another village about 5 miles from where I am now.Knew the woman, she worked at the playschool my eldest two went to.It is so much more me than where I am now.1930s semi, but massive.on the road but not a busy road.I will have passers by there and there is scope to work on the garden.I have never liked it here,I only bought it because it was the right price and had enough bedrooms.I have been packing but have run out of boxes and bubble wrap and newspaper now.Taken my garden bench and all the pots to my Mum's,it looks like a garden of remembrance. My son and eldest daughter are coming home tonight to get all their stuff out of the loft and put it in my Mum's loft. She is an absolute trouper,we will have to stay there for a few weeks too.

lovin the recipes, might have to make the treacle tart, not tonight have just made lasagne and lemon meringue pie for later.will have that with some of my leaves that are growing in various vessels in the garden.Vx
