It is so nice to share in all of your lovely memories. Even though things were hard back then, I think people were a lot happier, kinder, understanding and more helpful than some peeps of today.
I feel like I have missed out on some good times. x0 -
Everything you and kittym say is true, Cheerfulness; life seems to be more complicated now, but let's look on the bright side, everyone on this thread is kind and helpful, and we are talking about strangers here. Both my son and daughter's families all eat together and if we instil good habits in our children and grandchildren they will spread to the next generation. Hope springs eternal.

I think the pace of life when I was a child would have suited me very well as an adult. I loved life back then. I have to say I also love lots of things about now, too. I guess each generation has its perks.

Only spent 55p today! Was browsing Home Bargains and came across 2kg of potatoes @55p. Just in time as we only had 3 small ones left.
Chicken curry and rice tomorrow as I've got a box of leftover roasted chicken in the freezer and I've found 2 jars of Tesco Korma sauce (Value @ 20p last year). I'll use one up and save the other for next month.
I've also got 2 pks of Peshwari Naan breads in the freezer left over from an Approved food order ages ago, so I'll pull out a pack of those to have with the curry.
No knitting done today. I've a feeling that the reason I'm feeling off it is that DH has given me his cold. I hope not or this will be my fourth cold this winter and I normally breeze through with one if any at all.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

I finally sewed the pillow protectors today, it's not the prettiest of sewing
but am happy with them. Nothing else to report today really, just wanted to add that I've really enjoyed reading through all the posts today and sharing in your memories.

My late Dad was born in 1890 and died in 1974, he went from seeing the first car in Brechin in Angus to seeing men land on the moon.I remember thinking the most exciting invention that my Dad brought home from work was a retractable biro pen Just to be able to use a pen without a nib to me was weird.I remember he let my brothers and I look at it, but we weren't allowed to use it as it had cost him quite a bit of money Nowadays you get a free biro in Barclays Bank:):):)and throw them away when finished
I loved watching Magic Roundabout with my two small children back in the 1960s "Time for bed" said Zebadee

Wow we all have happy childhood memories growing up in the era when we all felt safe and not many car's around when we were playing outside. Satisfied with what we had and I feel we learnt alot from our parents and hopefully we have passed on the knowledge to our children who in turn will pass on to our grandchildren.
So I'm one of the younger end of the group, I love it that we are are like minded peeps.
The aran is almost finished sewing up and then just the neck I must learn how to put photo's on here. Why pay full price when you may get it YS0 -
I remember In Town Tonight and the shipping forecast takes me right back to my childhood. I was born in the countryside and my Grandad who lived with us was a retired gamekeeper so I grew up with his shotgun propped up in the corner near his chair. We had no running water in the house and my mum had to collect it in buckets from across the yard. No electricity either and I went to bed with a little Aladin oil lamp on a table beside the bed and it was left alight all night. The loo was a bucket and chuck it in its own little house along the garden path. We had our first telly when I was about 10 and one oif the first programmes I remember seeing was the relief of a prison of war camp and burying bodies in huge pits. I don't think my mum ever knew I was under the table peering out but I wish I hadn't as the image will always be with me.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

I'd love to see a photo of the finished aran. I am itching to do one myself.
I put an MSE link on a few pages back to show how to add piccies but I'm not sure if it didn't confuse some. I use photobucket myself and find it really simple to post pics and edit them, too.
That bought back memories, Jackieo, "bedtime" said Zebedy. Knew mum would be waiting to pop us in bed then, hot water bottles in her arms.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

And I thought we had it dangerous with the lighthouse paraffin heater stationed at the top of the stairs to keep us all warm in the night!
Lovely smell, though.:DAUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250
